Maintenance Technician I – 2nd Shift
Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 10:00pm
The hourly wage for this position is $30.81 with a $1.50 Shift Premium

ROLE SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all plant equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and structural systems. This role ensures equipment reliability and operational efficiency by troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electrical systems. Additional responsibilities include maintaining plant buildings and grounds, overseeing maintenance stockroom inventory, and supporting production operations as needed. This position will also serve as a backup for production operators, assisting with raw material intake, packaging, and warehousing. This position requires strong technical skills, a proactive approach to maintenance, and a commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*denotes essential job functions):
Learns and performs all production related responsibilities including receiving, shipping, line operation, parameter adjustment, lab testing, packaging, bulk loadout, and inventory management
Performs preventative maintenance tasks
Performs maintenance work and electrical work as needed
Performs and leads minor and major maintenance activities
Perform installation, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, calibration, verification, certification, test, and operation of high and low voltage power system, substations, power panels, electro/mechanical, electrical/electronic high/low voltage equipment, including specialized electrical/electronic systems and control circuits
Perform work on subsystem assemblies, PC’s, PLC’s, relays, protective devices, instrumentation components, bridges, hoists, doors, motors, shop machinery, cables, lighting, appliances, clocks, gauges, meters, test equipment, and portable electrical equipment and components
Understands all process’ related to food safety requirements
Coordinates work with outside contractors as needed
Coordinates all maintenance requiring downtime with production manager
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and mechanical process problems
Maintains accurate documentation on log sheets, logbooks, and reports
Orders Maintenance Repair parts and supplies
Maintains a maintenance stockroom
Oversee and participate in upkeep of facility grounds
Oversee and participate in upkeep of building and offices
Understands all process related to manufacturing and is trained as a process expert
Trains other personnel in the proper procedures related to the manufacturing processes
Keeps work area clean, neat, and free from safety hazards
Follows all facility safety rules, policies, and procedures including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Follows all facility rules to maintain quality and integrity of both raw materials and finished products
Maintains a positive attitude and is a motivated reliable employee
Operates a company-issued vehicle to transport materials between Mason City plant locations; must possess a valid driver’s license and be legally authorized to operate a motor vehicle
All other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required, additional education preferred
Minimum 3-5 years-experience maintaining industrial equipment
Moderate computer literacy and accuracy
Minimum 1 year of forklift experience
PREFERED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred
Journeyman or Master Electrician License is a plus
Certifications in PLC programming, industrial automation, or robotics preferred
Welding certification (TIG, MIG, Arc) is a plus
Continuous Improvement/Kaizen Experience highly preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Able to operate production and warehousing equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks
Attentive to organization, detail, proper documentation requirements, and accuracy
Good oral and written communication skills
Good basic computer literacy and accuracy
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization
Attentive to organization, detail, and accuracy
Ability to execute all daily requirements adhering to a production schedule
Ability to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter
Ability to weld (Tig, Arc, Mig), pipe fit, and machine components
Ability to repair and install industrial equipment
Responsibility for electrical maintenance as well as industrial Maintenance
Ability to read and interpret technical and mechanical drawings, P&ID’s, and electrical schematics.
Thoroughly understand single and 3-phase electrical systems
PLC experience is a plus
REQUIRED TRAINING:
On-the-job training for equipment operation, packaging, and safety protocols
OSHA safety training, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Hazard Communication (HazCom)
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) training
Forklift operation training
Feed safety compliance training
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a manufacturing facility with exposure to dust, noise, varying temperatures, and raw material odors
Requires standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection as required
Work may involve exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs), which could pose a risk to individuals with pacemakers or other medical implants
May require occasional overtime, weekend shifts, and emergency call-ins based on operational needsCompany Description
