Position Summary:
Performs ultrasound procedures within the medical practice; cleans and maintains ultrasonic equipment and supplies and holds certification from the required certifying organizations. Follows physicians’ orders precisely and conforms to regulations concerning the use of ultrasonic equipment. Works in conjunction with Radiology Safety Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILILTIES:
Prepares patients for ultrasonic and/or radiologic procedures
Performs ultrasonic, radiologic procedures, and EKGs
Follows established procedures for patient care and safety
Maintains supplies and keeps equipment in good working order
Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor and Radiation Safety Officer
Cleans technical and auxiliary equipment to ensure quality and hygiene for infection control purposes
Records images of optimal diagnostic quality by set standards and procedures while operating within the scope of license
Performs procedures such as archiving, copying, sending images to the referring physician, and weekly back ups
Properly positions patients for testing
Logs ultrasonic procedures and processes routine paperwork
Performs patient transcription and data base entry
Supervises and precepts students and volunteers
Delivery of medical/pharmacy care in accordance with the Catholic Moral and Ethical Directives
Follows all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines and regulations, including assisting HIPAA and OSHA Officers in ensuring compliance
Maintains confidentiality of patient information/records at all times
Maintains established San José Clinic policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control
Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the San José Clinic Mission and Code of Conduct and is supportive of San José Clinic cultural diversity objectives
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years of medical office experience
Current Ultrasonic Medical Technologist or Ultrasonic Technologies certification
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform ultrasonic testing
Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement
Can demonstrate excellent organizational & time management skills
Able to handle and complete multiple tasks or projects with multiple deadlines
Able to deal professionally, courteously, and efficiently with public and all levels of the organization
Able to operate computer, copier/fax, and electronic scanner
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, practice management system software applications, and electronic medical records
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates effective customer relation skills, working with diverse populations, often in stressful fast paced environments
Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, stand, bend and stoop for (long) periods of time
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally/ frequently
Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations
Exposure to noise
Exposure to blood and/or fluids
