Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay: 55-60/hour
Long term contract
Join our dynamic team as a Mechanical Engineer, where you will design and develop state-of-the-art systems and components for advanced weaponry and defense mechanisms. Your expertise will contribute directly to the integration and innovation of legacy and next-generation platforms.
What You’ll Do
Design & Development: Create, integrate, and release system and subsystem assemblies and components, focusing on gun/turret drives, racerings, weapon systems, and associated hardware (including ammunition handling and feed systems).
Mechanical Solutions: Develop articulating, locking, or sliding mechanisms to meet Human Factors requirements, ensuring ergonomic and safe designs.
Technical Leadership: Use your CAD skills to lead design projects, prepare detailed models and installation drawings, and coordinate with Design Services to support concurrent engineering.
Prototype & Integration: Support procurement, prototype builds and on-site integration; troubleshoot and resolve issues during assembly and testing.
Engineering Analysis: Interpret technical drawings and perform tolerance stack-ups; apply knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). Experience with FEA tools (ANSA, Nastran, LS-DYNA) is a plus.
Collaboration: Collaborate in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, communicating effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and other functional teams.
Continuous Improvement: Analyze failures and drive corrective actions; contribute ideas for product improvement and innovation.
Reporting: Prepare technical reports, modification instructions, and documentation as required.
