Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Rope Access Technician Level 3 to join our team. This role involves performing mechanical maintenance, cleaning, and bolt torquing on wind turbines using advanced rope access techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent technical skills, and the ability to lead and supervise rope access operations. This position requires 100% travel.
Key Responsibilities:
Rope Access Operations and Leadership
Manage and oversee all rope access operations, ensuring safe practices and project efficiency.
Perform and supervise advanced maintenance tasks, mechanical repairs, and structural inspections.
Evaluate and resolve complex challenges related to tower cleaning, general maintenance, or mechanical work.
Train and mentor Levels 1 and 2 technicians, fostering skill development and team cohesion.
Serve as the rescue lead, coordinating and executing rescue plans in emergency situations.
Qualifications and Skills:
Expertise in mechanical work, tower cleaning, and maintenance activities.
Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
In-depth knowledge of safety standards, including OSHA and industry-specific guidelines.
Communicate with clients, site managers, and project coordinators to ensure expectations are met.
Lead rope access operations in accordance with IRATA or SPRAT Level 3 standards, including rigging anchor systems and performing safety checks.
Supervise and mentor Tech 1 and Tech 2 technicians in rope access techniques and repair processes.
Serve as the site safety supervisor during all rope access activities, ensuring compliance with all safety procedures
Safety Management and Compliance
Conduct and document site-specific risk assessments, including Job Site Analysis (JSA).
Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols, including proper PPE use and fall protection measures.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, equipment use, and certifications to comply with regulatory and company requirements.
Project Coordination
Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to plan and prioritize work schedules.
Provide technical expertise to resolve challenges during tasks.
Ensure project completion within timelines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Documentation and Communication
Create detailed reports on inspection findings, repair work completed, and any follow-up recommendations.
Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
Maintain logs of all rope access equipment inspections and repairs.
Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Must be at a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in wind turbine blade repair or composite repair
IRATA Level 3 or SPRAT Level 3 certification is required
Strong background in rope access techniques and team supervision
GWO BST required
GWO ART required
GWO BTT preferred
NPFA 70 preferred
Valid drivers license and pre-access drug and alcohol testing required
Pre-employment background checks and clear driving record will be required
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in using tools and power equipment required for blade repairs.
Ability to work at heights and in challenging environmental conditions
Work Conditions:
Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in diverse industrial environments with varying climate conditions
Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors, client personnel and a wide range of stakeholders
Working in a plant and/or shop area around production machinery with extreme noise levels
Work from various levels of heights and/or confined spaces for long periods of time
Wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection (PPE)
May require working from heights at 250 or greater
Travel to different job sites as needed, sometimes on short notice
May require shiftwork (days, evenings, nights)
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to lift, move, and carry objects weighing 75lbs. or greater
Must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, reach, and climb
Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights, including climbing tanks, ladders, scaffolding, towers, piping systems, catwalks, structural steel, and wind turbines
Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking and stooping
Working extended hours and standing for extended periods of time
Work in indoor and outdoor environments in conditions of extreme heat and/or cold
Work in and near industrial hazards
Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties
Remain consistently active throughout shift
