TRC is seeking a talented Controls Engineer 3 to join one of our electrical product manufacturing clients for an Onsite position in Alpharetta, GA. This role is a contract to hire position at this time.

Position’s Contributions to Work Group:

Design, test, and commission custom switchgear and generator control systems

In this role, you will design, develop and build, Low and Medium voltage switchgear for generator paralleling applications.

What you will do:

Interpret customer specifications and drawings, and apply them while considering industry regulations and NEC, UL 508, UL 891,UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements

Create bill of materials in ERP system

Provide direction to purchasing and procurement

Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings

Support production during equipment manufacturing

Write and validate PLC code for generator control systems, interfacing with various communication protocols

Typical task breakdown:

Execute and support the design, test, manufacture, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear that controls multiple generators which parallel to one or more utility sources

Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings for generator paralleling switchgear controls

Interact with internal and external customers, accomplishing project milestones

Create bill of materials for generator paralleling switchgear controls in ERP system

Create PLC programs for control of generator paralleling switchgear

Execute multiple projects simultaneously

Interaction with team:

Work alongside team of 5-8 engineers. Report to Engineering Manger.

Work environment:

Office/Air-Conditioned manufacturing facility

Education & Experience Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering preferred

5-7 years experience required.

Open to 2 year degree with 7+ years of experience

Open to Masters with same experience

Internships will not count for experience

Technical Skills

(Required)

Ability to create PLC programs using one of the IEC 61131 PLC Programming languages i.e. Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text or any other PLC programming language

Design, test, and commission control systems. i.e. systems with different PLC controllers in the same system, experience interfacing, designing controls with different manufacturers

Develop control software utilizing various PLC platforms. Expert knowledge on at least one of the following PLC platforms. Schneider Momentum, M340, M580, AB Control, Compact Logix, Woodward MSLC, DSLC, Easy Gen, and LS5 Architecture

Interpret customer specifications and drawings, and apply them to design platform while considering industry regulations and requirements

Customize PLC software and hardware templates

Understand in detail the applicable NEC, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements and their applications in switchgear controls

Understand protective relays, their functions associated with Generator, and Utility protection applications
