We have a welcoming and inviting space that provides an opportunity for all people to experience conversation and community while enjoying an excellent, fresh, and healthy meal. Our newest venture, The Travelin’ Table, is a food truck and mobile catering program that takes our mission beyond our brick-and-mortar café to serve meals and build relationships across the Triangle.
Position Summary
The Catering Sales and Operations Manager is the entrepreneurial and mission-driven leader responsible for managing all aspects of The Travelin’ Table food truck, growing our catering and special events program, and expanding our impact through community partnerships and outreach. This role focuses heavily on sales strategy, logistics, operations, and team leadership to ensure excellence and growth in our mobile food programs.
Key Responsibilities
Food Truck Operations & Program Leadership (65%)
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Travelin’ Table food truck, including scheduling, routing, staffing, and execution of service.
Lead all event coordination and logistics, including community events, private catering, nonprofit partnerships, and special bookings.
Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit partners, corporate sponsors, and event clients.
Supervise food truck staff and volunteers; ensure positive team culture, mission alignment, and accountability.
Manage food preparation and food safety protocols, and collaborate with the culinary team to ensure menu consistency and quality.
Track inventory, ordering, vehicle maintenance, and commissary kitchen coordination.
Represent A Place at the Table in the community with professionalism, warmth, and purpose.
Catering, Sales & Business Development (25%)
Develop and lead catering and sales strategy to grow revenue and increase mission reach.
Proactively pursue new business opportunities for catering and truck bookings, including nonprofit, corporate, and community sectors.
Coordinate pricing, proposals, contracts, and communications for all catering clients.
Develop and track performance metrics, goals, and feedback to improve services and outcomes.
Collaborate with the Executive Director on marketing and communications for mobile programs.
Administrative, HR & Financial Oversight (10%)
Support HR functions for food truck staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluations.
Track and manage all truck-related expenses, payments, and payroll using QuickBooks and other admin tools.
Maintain all necessary licenses, health permits, and food truck regulations.
Qualifications
Passion for Table’s mission of food justice and community.
2+ years of experience in food truck management and/or catering, hospitality, or event-based food service.
Proven track record in sales, customer relationship building, and business development.
Experience managing teams and leading projects from concept to execution.
Strong understanding of food safety, logistics, and mobile food operations.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required); experience driving large vehicles preferred.
QuickBooks, Google Workspace, or other admin/financial tool experience a plus.
