Azure PostgresSQL Engineer
Our client is looking for a short term consultant to help them with a quick project. If you are skilled and knowledgeable in PostgreSQL, then we would love to hear from you! We value diversity in the workplace and encourage women, minorities, and veterans to apply. Thank you!
Location: Tigard, Oregon (Position can be fully remote)
Employment Type: Contract NTE: 80 Hours
We are seeking a skilled PostgreSQL Engineer for a specific project with a 3rd-party developer of one of our mission critical applications. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, cost-estimating, implementing, and optimizing a solution using PostgreSQL connecting to on-prem application servers and a legacy SQL database. You will advise on architecture decisions including the location of the PostgreSQL database (on-prem or in the cloud) and how best to integrate our analytics platform (Microsoft Fabric). Then you will collaborate with our vendor’s developer to create a secure, cost-efficient, and high-performance data environment with the PostgreSQL database either on-prem, or in the cloud on Azure
As the developer builds out the solution, you will transition into a role as an evaluator and auditor. You will be asked to monitor the application as it runs, looking for connectivity issues with the chosen network architecture and performance issues with the configuration. You will be asked to conduct a full security audit of the environment after the application vendor builds the configuration. You will work with our Admin team to establish and execute a database backup plan. The contract may be extended to repeat some of these activities at major milestones including solution build completion, unit testing, load testing, staff beta testing, initial production, and full production load.
Key Responsibilities
Design PostgreSQL database solution for high availability and scalability.
Design solution network architecture with options including a hybrid web application with cloud database and on-prem application servers, all on-prem, or a phased approach that begins on prem and moves to the cloud.
Assess solution cost based on metrics, best practices, and experience.
Lead resolution of database, network architecture, and security issues with the solution.
Evaluate database structures and integration strategies proposed by a 3rd-party developer.
Monitor solution database, network architecture, and security to establish baselines.
Direct implementation of data replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
Audit security for best practices including encryption, role-based access control, and HIPAA compliance.
Optimize PostgreSQL configuration for both cost savings and performance requirements.
Implement and assist in testing database backup.
Document estimates, configuration, and security mitigations.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience with PostgreSQL on-prem and in Azure
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of data privacy laws and compliance (HIPAA).
Experience with data connectivity and cybersecurity best practices in mixed cloud / on-prem application environments.
Familiarity with relational vs. NoSQL database design principles.
Proficiency in scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and data serialization formats.
Experience with DevOps tools and practices, especially for database environments.
