VP of Software Development
Location: Charlotte, NC
Salary: $160,000 - $200,000 base salary + bonus + equity
Brightsmith is partnered with a fast-growing software infrastructure start-up building an automation platform to optimize workflows. They are primary service providers to the ISP, telecommunications and utility sectors.
With global offices across the U.S., South Africa, and South America, they’re now expanding their Charlotte, NC team and are seeking a Vice President of Software Development. Reporting directly to the COO, you’ll take ownership of software development strategy, architecture, and execution
This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring the ability to code, architect solutions, and lead a growing team.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership: Define and lead the U.S. software development roadmap, working with existing international teams to localize and evolve platform priorities.
Hands-on Development: Design, architect, and develop software solutions across frontend, backend, DevOps, network management systems (NMS), and systems integration.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, including Customer Success and Network Engineering, to align software deliverables with business goals.
Client Interaction: Occasionally participate in early-stage client scoping meetings to translate needs into software solutions.
On-site Leadership: Serve as an in-office leader for the Charlotte-based team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a fast-paced, startup-like culture.
Skills and Qualifications:
Industry Experience: 10+ years in software development, including experience building tools for telecommunications, broadband, or ISP industries.
Leadership: Proven track record of leading software development teams, either as a VP or Director ready for the next step.
Technical Depth: Strong coding skills across frontend, backend, and DevOps, ideally with expertise in C#, .NET, and network management systems.
Startup Mindset: Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment; hands-on and proactive with a builder’s mentality.
Client-Facing Comfort: Willingness to engage directly with ISP clients for requirements gathering and solution design.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing software for ISPs or telecomms, either as a SaaS vendor or within an in-house software team.
Strong understanding of systems integration, BI tools, and NMS platforms.
