About Etched

Etched is pioneering the development of cutting-edge AI hardware. We design and manufacture state-of-the-art chips purpose-built for transformer inference. Our hardware is engineered with precision and performance at the forefront, enabling breakthroughs in deep learning and large-scale AI deployments.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Rework Technician with extensive experience in handling high-density PCB assemblies, particularly with 0402-size surface-mount components and smaller. The ideal candidate will have a meticulous eye for detail, steady hands, and a strong commitment to quality and reliability in rework and repair tasks. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring the functionality and yield of our high-performance computing hardware.

Key Responsibilities

Perform precision rework and repair of PCBs, including removal and replacement of 0402 and smaller SMT components using hot air, micro-soldering, and reflow techniques.

Use magnification tools such as stereo microscopes and digital inspection equipment for visual inspection and alignment.

Follow detailed rework instructions, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Maintain ESD-safe practices at all times when handling sensitive electronics.

Document rework operations and maintain accurate records in tracking systems.

Collaborate with hardware engineers and technicians to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve component-level failures.

Provide feedback on manufacturability and reworkability to improve design and process yield.

Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for rework processes, tools, and documentation.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills:

5+ years of hands-on experience in rework or precision assembly of SMT components (especially 0402, 0201, or smaller).

Proficient with tools such as soldering irons, hot air stations, BGA rework stations, tweezers, and optical magnification equipment.

Steady hand and excellent fine motor skills.

Ability to interpret complex schematics, board layouts, and rework documentation.

Strong attention to detail and patience when working on intricate assemblies.

Nice-to-Haves:

IPC-7711/21 or IPC-A-610 certification.

Experience with reballing and reworking fine-pitch BGAs or CSPs.

Familiarity with AOI and X-ray inspection equipment.

Experience working in a startup or fast-paced R&D hardware environment.
