ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Identifying Information

Status: Full time and exempt

Reports to and is supervised by: Pastor

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION

Professional who assists parishioners by equipping them for the service of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (See Unleash the Gospel, Guidepost 4.); oversees programs that evangelize the evangelizers (Marker 4.1, 4.2) using the process of encounter, grow, and witness; helps parishioners to discern their charisms for ministry (Marker 4.3); focuses parish efforts to reach out to unchurched Christians and people of other faiths; ensures effective and responsive communications to all those engaged with or seeking engagement with the Church; oversees the radical hospitality for all parish events and programs; develops evangelization initiatives and collaborates with the team so evangelization is integrated throughout the other areas; works closely with the Director of Discipleship Formation, helping to move individuals and families from the “attract” and “encounter” stages of evangelization into the “grow” and “witness” phases of discipleship formation. Understands the significance of cultural diversity in evangelization and ministry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS (KRA)

Programs and Activities

Provides charism discernment (e.g., Called and Gifted).

Provides programs and recommends resources that equip parishioners for ministry.

Provides programs to deepen encounter with Jesus for staff and parishioners.

Plans and executes parish signature events and supports major events put on by ministries.

Works with Advancement Coordinator in planning and prioritizing integrated marketing efforts.

Attends parish and community events (including nights and weekends).

Responds to inquiries through personal phone calls, emails, mailings, and in-person.

Fosters authentic Christian encounters among the parish community through a community-focused content strategy.

Develops and fosters relationships with current, new, and potential parishioners.

Manages contact and parish engagement data.

Creates a culture of radical hospitality at parishes.

Assists staff in focusing their work on providing a deepened encounter with Jesus to those in their ministry.

Study AOD, USCCB and Vatican documents/movements of the Church and make recommendations to pastor regarding the potential impact and opportunities for our parish in terms of evangelization.

Communications

Executes effective marketing and communications strategies (digital and print) for parish campaigns and ministry initiatives.

Uses effective, anticipatory, and responsive communication (online and offline) to accompany new and potential parishioners as they seek engagement with parish services and community.

Works with Advancement Coordinator to create the parish event calendar, news and announcements, social media channels, and email communication.

Administration

Coordinates the recruitment, training, and support of volunteers.

Assesses effectiveness of services provided to parishioners.

Prepares and maintains the annual budget for Engagement and Evangelization.

Supports any reasonable request of the Pastor.

Assists in providing strategic direction to the parish ministries.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (SKA)

Is mission driven and a creative problem solver.

Has studied and understands the Unleash the Gospel document.

Understands Catholic teaching on evangelization as presented in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the documents of Vatican II, Papal encyclicals, documents of the USCCB, and other relevant Church documents.

Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Has good interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.

Has good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Demonstrates a commitment to high professional ethical standards.

Has organizational skills needed to manage many people and projects.

Is able to work a flexible schedule and routinely attend weekend and evening parish activities.

Is a digitally intuitive professional with a willingness to be trained in AOD integrated marketing strategy and to deploy it in a community focused way, with the goal of increasing parish engagement at all levels.

Understands the thresholds of conversion and how to bring someone along to mature discipleship.

Passionate about the work of making disciples and supporting the parish mission and vision statements.

Able to inspire others about all aspects of Detroit Model of Evangelization.

Possesses some of the following charisms: Administration, Discernment of Spirits, Evangelism, Helps, Hospitality, Leadership, and Teaching.

Education, training and/or experience

Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Catechetics, or related field.

Knowledge of parish life and ministry best-practices.

Knowledge of parish trends and renewal strategies such as those outlined in Forming Intentional Disciples, Divine Renovation, and Amazing Parish.
