Job Title: AFSIM Model Developer / Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Job Description: Sumaria is seeking an experienced AFSIM (Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling) Subject Matter Expert or Model Developer to support advanced modeling and simulation activities across government programs and internal R&D initiatives. This individual will contribute to and lead AFSIM development efforts under prime contracts, company IRAD and SBIR projects, and proposal development. The candidate will also mentor junior AFSIM developers as part of our growing technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement AFSIM models for multi-domain operational scenarios

Support AFSIM development for prime contracts, internal IRAD and SBIR efforts, and proposals

Integrate custom platform, sensor, and weapon models using C++/Lua or relevant plug-ins

Conduct mission-level analysis to support CONOPS development, trade studies, and operational assessments

Collaborate with government customers and internal technical teams to validate simulation assumptions and outputs

Prepare documentation and briefings to convey modeling results to stakeholders

Support proposal activity by contributing modeling concepts, technical approaches, and white papers

Mentor and guide junior AFSIM developers to build team capability and ensure consistent modeling standards

Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in C++, Lua scripting, or related tools used in AFSIM development

Strong understanding of mission-level simulation, systems-of-systems modeling, and digital engineering workflows

Experience working in or with DoD acquisition, modeling, or analysis environments

Strong communication skills and ability to clearly convey technical content

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field

Years of Experience: 3+ years of experience building or modifying AFSIM simulations

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting Air Force, Space Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Intelligent Centers, or related DoD organizations

Familiarity with modeling satellite systems, missile defense, EW, or air combat engagements in AFSIM

Experience integrating AFSIM with MBSE environments (e.g., Cameo/SysML) or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)

Demonstrated experience mentoring or training junior technical staff

Prior contributions to proposal efforts, SBIR submissions, or capability development white papers

Knowledge of data science methods and software

Travel: Some

Security Clearance Required: Secret (TS/SCI preferred)
