Position: Process Engineer IV - HQ

Hours of work: Full-time position with hours Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 PM
The Process Engineer IV will provide process engineering technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Facilities Engineering, and various corporate departments. The Process Engineer IV is responsible for a variety of engineering activities that include identification and initiation of plant improvement projects, support of plant capital projects, technical support to production teams, resolution of all technical regulatory issues, and development/presentation of technical training. The Process Engineer IV performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products/processes/techniques. The Process Engineer IV assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests/products/equipment. Coordinates planning, organization, and implementation of engineering projects within constraints of specific objectives and target dates as specified by management. The Process Engineer IV must manage multiple assignments while working closely with other staff members, production teams, and maintenance personnel.
This position may represent a transition from individual contributor to the managerial level. It may or may not carry the ongoing responsibilities for people management. The position requires an ability to interpret on a broad basis, principles, theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)
Expected to exhibit a high degree of cooperation/teamwork with multiple departments
Must be flexible in work activities to support cross-functional department and position assignments
Works with senior managers to communicate opportunities for manufacturing improvement, develop justifications for projects and improvement initiatives, and carry out the implementation of projects deemed valuable
Develops a high level of technical proficiency in the manufacture of activated carbon and stays current with chemical engineering skills
Seeks out and develops new tools to advance and improve the company's engineering and carbon manufacturing processes
Provides support to Facilities Engineering to develop and execute new projects
Develops process flow diagrams, conceptual material and energy balances, and draft P&IDs to support the development of business cases and capital appropriation requests for new projects
Performs basic economic analysis of proposed projects and considers multiple alternatives before presenting proposals
Works with outside engineering contractors to guide their efforts, answer technical questions, and ensure technical correctness and viability of solutions proposed by contract engineering firms
Works with engineering contractors to develop detailed design documents based on earlier conceptual work
Verifies equipment and process specifications and material and energy balances produced by outside engineering firms
Works with internal Project Managers to ensure that projects will deliver on production, operability, and operating cost goals
Provides engineering support to production plants as assigned
Travels to facilities regularly to understand their processes and engineering needs
Maintains good relationships with plant managers and operational and maintenance staff
Actively seeks opportunities to identify improvements in process economy, efficiency, and production rates
Guides/mentors junior engineers in the completion of their assignments
Participates in and leads, as assigned, cross functional teams within Calgon and in intercompany events and initiatives within Kuraray
Works with plant management at multiple facilities to seek opportunities for efficiency, cost, and quality improvements
Initiates and obtains approval for cost reduction projects
Coordinates and/or participates in the design, installation and start-up of new projects at the plant Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required (Chemical Engineering)
7-10 years of experience in a plant environment is required
9+ years of manufacturing development/optimization experience is preferred
