WHAT SETS YOU APART
As the Performance Nutritionist for the San Diego Wave, you will be responsible for the development, delivery, and strategic direction of the nutrition and culinary services of our club. With a forward thinking and collaborative approach, you will develop innovative strategies in the field of food and sports nutrition to provide a competitive advantage to the team. Being in both a player delivery and strategic role, the performance nutritionist will be a critical function within the team’s performance department. Working closely with the executive team chef, culinary assistants, wider performance team and medical team, the performance nutritionist will lead with high levels of collaboration for the aligned benefit of the players.
In addition to delivery and strategy the performance nutritionist will also be required to manage food and culinary budgets and wider administrative tasks to ensure best practice and club and team compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and develop the strategic delivery a best-in-class nutrition and culinary program to provide San Diego Wave a competitive advantage within the NWSL.
· Devise strategies for players to identify their personal fueling requirements to meet the demands of training and games & develop individual strategies to help them meet it.
· Deliver individual nutrition, hydration & supplement plans to meet players performance, wellness & health objectives.
· Devise a player and staff nutritional education program to enhance performance, recovery, wellness & sleep.
Alongside the executive performance chef, devise menu’s which are tailored to meet the demands of training and the game and periodized appropriately both in and out of market.
· Develop and utilize methods such as environmental nudges, signage, prompts and education to help bring the nutrition philosophy to life and encourage players to make performance & health-based decisions that best meet their individual objectives.
Develop a clear, positive, understandable and relatable language around nutrition.
Monitor the traceability of the supplements provided to players, ensuring that they comply with official standards and anti-doping regulations, as well as keeping records of them.
Service player daily requirements regarding pre and post training fueling and supplementation.
Manage daily preparation of individualized drinks as required
Manage training ground and traveling snacks ordering, stock take and individualized allocation to players.
Assist Team Operations and Performance Chef to identify, oversee and further develop relationships with local catering providers and vendors.
· Create nutritional guidelines & and SDW nutrition philosophy for chefs, hotels, and catering companies to follow.
· Following an injury collaborate with the medical and performance team to understand the return to play process and phases and devise specific nutritional plans, nutritional interventions & supplement to align. Ensuring efficient and effective return to play process.
Following blood work assess and analyze dietary habits/needs and athlete supplementation in conjunction with the medical team and team physician.

Collaborate with all the department members to identify athletes who require individualized plans to help meet performance and personal goals.
Comply with all League medical policies and protocols.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, food science, sports nutrition, or related fields.
Master’s degree in nutrition, food science, or exercise physiology, highly preferred.
At least 5 years of experience with elite athletes
At least 3 years of experience leading a world class nutrition program within a professional sports team setting
Experience in assessing nutritional biomarkers.
Diploma in Sports Medical Nutrition (ASMI) is preferred.
IOC Diploma in Sports Nutrition is preferred.
ISAK Level 2 Anthropometrics certification.
Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office programs.
Elevated level of skill in organization, communication, and time management.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA regulations
Availability during non-traditional office hours in non-traditional settings, including holidays, nights and weekends.
