Description
This is a 30 hour per week position with potential for additional hours.
Shift is from 11pm - 9am and requires a driver's license. This is an awake shift with no sleeping.
$17.00 / hour with shift differential of an additional $1.00 / hour for the hours of Midnight - 6am. Great benefit package with health, dental, and vision insurance along with PTO and Extended Sick accrual upon hire.
Summary:
The Direct Support Professional 1 overnight is responsible for providing support to persons with disabilities. This position performs duties relating to in-home nutritional, safety, leisure and community integrated needs, training and support of individuals who reside in their own homes. This person is also responsible for performing safety and health checks in their residence during the overnight hours. Ability to acquire the knowledge of the theory and practice of positive programming. This position reports directly to the Supported Living Manger.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds: (for example moving furniture while cleaning)
Lift from floor to above shoulder level to place items on shelves or to retrieve items from storage shelves.
Must be able of giving, receiving, interpreting, and applying verbal and/or written instructions and directions.
Maintain a safe environment for everyone, which may include using and demonstrating proper safety skills and / or using the proper safety equipment.
Ability to pass and maintain Little Bitterroot Services training, which includes First-Aid, CPR, MANDT (management of non-aggressive adults with disabilities), State mandated Medication Certification, and College of Direct Supports.
Ability to acquire training to support individuals with special needs (as needed) such as wheelchairs, walkers, and other specialized medical equipment as well as positive behavioral supports.
Supervise and performs morning routines with consumers which support the philosophy of independence of each consumer.
Oversees the delivery of home services to individuals during the evening sleep hours including but not limited to safety and health checks.
Stay awake the entire shift to perform night checks and other duties as directed in the Supported Living area and other areas if needed.
Ability to acquire knowledge of the habilitation process, policies, and procedures for DPHHS-DDD Habilitation training, principles of community integration and normalization, and techniques of non-aversive training acquired through completion of identified sections of in-house training programs.
Assist and document the development and implementation of action plans and training goals for consumers, as developed by each consumer’s Personal Support Team under the supervision or direction the manager. This person is also responsible for writing case notes.
Assist each consumer with basic living skills (e.g., social & domestic) through specific instruction and positive programs. Assist with personal hygiene as needed (e.g., bathing, brushing teeth, shaving, nail clipping, dressing and overall general appearance).
Perform or assist consumers with basic domestic duties as needed (e.g., cooking, cleaning, and laundry).
Complete all paperwork required by Little Bitterroot Services, the State of Montana, and the Developmental Disability Division (e.g., daily checklists, medication administration records, mileage logs, Incident reports, case notes, timesheets etc.).
Serve as a good role model, maintain good personal boundaries with all consumers’ and co-workers and always maintain professionalism. This includes no horseplay, distraction of other employees or playing practical jokes at any time.
Follow all written protocols, excellent communication with other staff members on shift, during shift changes as well as with site manager are imperative.
Puts the consumers’ needs as a priority.
Includes consumers in morning routines, which includes basic home maintenance and meal preparations as much as possible.
Administer/supervise or assist consumers in taking medications and recording information.
Operate corporation vehicles to provide transportation to consumers
Responsible for and ability to maintain confidential information.
Develop and maintain a positive and effective relationship with consumers, families, guardians, neighborhood businesses, representatives of public service agencies and other co-workers of Little Bitterroot Services.
Has strong communication, both oral and written.
Fill in and work, if necessary, in any Little Bitterroot Services areas.
Keeps the Supported Living Manager apprised of any problem or potential problem areas regarding all training activities, staffing and routine operations.
Attends all mandatory meetings as required, keeps all necessary documentation as required.
During a normal 10-hour shift, employee will be standing up and moving at least 80% of the time. Exposure to unpleasant sights, sounds, odors, and physical aggression may be encountered.
Must follow the policy on wearing safety equipment during inclement weather. Staff must always wear cleats when icy.
DSP-1- overnight position is responsible for shoveling snow and using ice melt on the sidewalk.
Perform other duties as assigned

Ability to safely and frequently lift, move or otherwise handle items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a computer, copy machine, telephone, computer printer, etc.
Possession of a Montana Driver’s license and maintain a good driving record to meet the requirement for insurability to be covered by company vehicle insurance.
This position requires education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and completions of occupationally specific training.
Job Demands
While performing the duties of this job, employee frequently communicates with employees and consumers. This position must be able to exchange accurate information during new employee orientation and training. During a normal 8-hour shift employee will be standing up and moving at least 80% of the time. Bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling etc., are common motions to be expected. Walking and working surfaces are normally even. Exposure to sights, sounds, odors, and physical or verbal aggression may be encountered.
