Toole Design Group in Oakland, CA is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Landscape Architect / Designer III. This Landscape Architect/Designer III position will lead public realm and active transportation projects, and earns a competitive salary and great benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement, a health savings account (HSA), a flexible spending account (FSA), and all staff start with at least 24 days PTO. A Day in the Life of a Landscape Architect/Designer III
As a Landscape Architect / Designer III, you will lead and support transformative public realm and active transportation projects throughout California and the West. Your work will span all phases of design – from community engagement and concept development to final design. You will collaborate closely with clients, community members, and interdisciplinary teams to bring visionary streetscapes, trails, and public spaces to life.
You will also play a key role in project management and business development, applying your design expertise, organizational skills, and entrepreneurial mindset to grow our practice.
You will share a commitment to design excellence and work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.
We are targeting a salary range of $90,000 to $105,000 for this position.
Work Schedule for a Landscape Architect / Designer III
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2 days per week. The Oakland office of Toole Design is conveniently located in downtown Oakland, just blocks from Lake Merritt and the 19th Street BART Stations. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.

Requirements
Qualifications of a Landscape Architect/Designer III:
A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in landscape architecture
6+ years of progressive experience
Proven experience across all project phases: site analysis, concept design, planting design, construction documents, and specifications
Strong visual communication skills, including hand sketching and digital graphics
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and 3D visualization tools (e.g., Lumion, Rhino)
Strong project management experience, including staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and quality controlPassion for public realm design, multimodal transportation, and urban placemaking
It would be a plus if you have any of the following:
Licensure in CA or other states (or on licensure path)
Expertise in planting design and green infrastructure
Experience with trail, streetscape, or multimodal design
Public engagement experience, including facilitation of workshops
