This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - Fire Protection Technology who will be all-in on our mission and who will teach associate degree courses in Fire Science Technology and/or Physical Fitness for Firefighters. Responsibilities include classroom, laboratory, and online instruction, as well as preparing and enhancing course materials to ensure student success. Depending on certifications, instructors may also be required to teach or assist in other first responder disciplines, such as Law Enforcement or Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
This position is based at the First Responders Academy on the Plains Boulevard Campus in Amarillo, Texas and is filled on an as-needed basis depending on institutional requirements.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: Associate’s degree or higher in the teaching discipline or a related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in the teaching discipline or a related field or a Master's degree with at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in the discipline.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Experience in teaching, coaching, training, or instruction in an academic, professional, or field setting.
Preferred: Post-secondary teaching experience in fire science, fitness training, or first responder disciplines. Hands-on experience with Fire Candidate Physical Ability Tests (CPAT), FireFit training devices, or general gym equipment for fitness instruction.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and high-impact instruction using appropriate teaching methods.
Develop lesson plans that enhance student understanding and application of course material.
Utilize cutting-edge technology and equipment to deliver comprehensive training that prepares students for real-world firefighting scenarios.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student performance.
Utilize a course syllabus for each class, following institutional guidelines.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their progress.
Offer student support through office hours, email, and scheduled appointments.
Design and implement assessments to measure student learning outcomes.
Participate in curriculum development, revisions, and evaluations.
Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops.
Adhere to college policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Foster a collaborative and professional learning environment.
Perform other work-related duties as required.

Salary: Amarillo College Pay Grades, please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (early mornings, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines. Depending on the class being taught, fire science lab equipment, and physical fitness training equipment may be used regularly.
