Carpenter
Position Summary:
Maintains the District's schools and facilities in a condition that enhances the learning environment. Constructs, erects, installs and repairs structures and fixtures on diffent types of mediums using carpenter hand tools and power tools and conforming to local bulding codes. Studies blueprints, sketches or building plans for information pertaining to the type of material required and the dimensions of the structure or fixture.
**This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & SafetySensitive Positions Regulation. All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen before being hired or transferred. Employees holding safety-sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.**
Essential Duties:
Performs general duties of a carpenter including replacing window frames, building new partitions, hanging doors and installing suspended ceilings, repairing furniture and associated door hardware.
Prepares labor and material cost estimates; prepares layout; verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
Performs work in maintenance shop and at various school locations.
Constructs, erects, alters, repairs, and maintains doors, roofs, windows, furniture, cabinets, openscape offices, screens, frames, scaffolds, concrete forms, and other items using hand and power tools such as drills, jointers, sanders, saws, and other equipment of the carpentry trade.
Removes walls, installs partitions and steps; alters buildings or rooms; or adds to existing structures using hand and power tools.
Maintains and repairs hand or power tools and equipment of the carpentry trade by cleaning, oiling, setting, or other processes.
Marks, cuts and shapes material to prescribed measurements; assemble by fastening, with nails, staples, dowels, or glue.
Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities of other members of the Department during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
Requires reading, writing, and math skills normally obtained through the completion of a HS Diploma or a GED.
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Five (5) plus years of relative carpentry/cabinetry/construction experience required.
Certificate in Carpentry or Cabinetry from an accredited technical trades school or community college preferred.
Knowledge of power tools.
Possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as defined by the district's insurance carrier.
Communicates in an friendly, effective and professional manner with all OKCPS personnel, students and visitors.

Ability to lift up to 24 pounds continuously, 25 to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Generally works outside in all types of weather conditions.
Ability to work from top of District roofs.
