Position Overview:
The Shift Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in the janitorial operations of the school district, overseeing the delivery of all cleaning and custodial services across assigned facilities. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong leadership and organizational skills. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising cleaning staff, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety, and maintaining compliance with established procedures and quality expectations. The individual in this role will help foster a clean, secure, and welcoming environment that supports the daily operations and educational mission of the district.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
Lead, train, and support custodial staff, fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Develop and manage shift schedules to ensure consistent coverage across all school facilities.
Monitor staff performance, provide feedback, and conduct regular check-ins to promote accountability and growth.
Facilitate team meetings to communicate expectations, share updates, and address operational concerns.
Operational Management:
Implement and oversee daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning schedules for classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, gyms, cafeterias, and outdoor areas.
Perform regular inspections to ensure custodial services meet quality and cleanliness standards.
Manage custodial inventory, ordering supplies as needed and ensuring cost-effective resource use.
Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained in good working condition and coordinate repairs when necessary.
Coordination and Communication:
Serve as the primary liaison between custodial operations and school administration, addressing needs and concerns promptly.
Coordinate cleaning schedules to align with special events, extracurricular activities, and facility maintenance.
Communicate regularly with the Site Manager on staffing, supply needs, and any operational challenges or updates.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all custodial practices follow health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Train staff on proper chemical handling, PPE usage, and emergency procedures.
Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules, safety trainings, and inspections.
Budget and Resource Management:
Assist with budget planning and monitor custodial supply and equipment expenses.
Identify opportunities to improve service delivery, streamline operations, and reduce costs. Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in custodial or facilities services, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a school, university, or institutional setting.
Strong working knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, materials, and industry best practices for maintaining safe and sanitary environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage a diverse custodial team effectively.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Well-developed organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
Proficiency in basic computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, email, scheduling systems).
Familiarity with workplace safety standards, including OSHA regulations and chemical safety protocols.
Ability to pass a criminal background check and meet all school district clearance requirements. Physical Demands:
Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking and kneeling
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
