Primary Responsibilities:
1. Client Assessment and Intake:
• Conduct initial assessments to gather information about clients’ needs, mental health history, and personal background.
• Identify presenting issues and risk factors and document findings accurately.
2. Treatment Planning:
• Collaborate with clients and supervisors to develop personalized treatment plans.
• Set therapeutic goals and establish short- and long-term objectives for client progress.
3. Counseling and Therapy:
• Provide individual, group, or family therapy sessions under the supervision of a licensed clinical supervisor.
• Use evidence-based therapeutic techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), or Solution-Focused Therapy, to address client needs.
4. Crisis Intervention:
• Assist clients in crisis situations, providing immediate support and connecting them to additional resources.
• Develop safety plans and coordinate with supervisors and other team members to manage crisis situations effectively.
5. Case Management:
• Connect clients to community resources, such as housing assistance, employment services, and medical care.
• Collaborate with other service providers and community agencies to ensure holistic support for clients.
6. Documentation and Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate and timely client records, including intake forms, treatment plans, progress notes, and termination summaries.
• Ensure compliance with confidentiality and ethical standards in record-keeping and reporting.
7. Supervision and Professional Development:
• Participate in regular supervision sessions with a licensed social worker or therapist to review cases, receive feedback, and develop clinical skills.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices and new therapeutic methods.
8. Advocacy and Client Empowerment:
• Advocate for clients within the healthcare and social service systems to ensure they receive appropriate care and services.
• Empower clients to develop coping skills, build self-esteem, and make positive changes in their lives.
9. Ethical and Culturally Competent Practice:
• Adhere to ethical guidelines and standards set by the NASW and local licensing boards.
• Provide culturally sensitive services, recognizing and respecting diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
• Active ACSW registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
• Knowledge of mental health issues, evidence-based interventions, and crisis intervention techniques.
Preferred Skills:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage caseloads, prioritize tasks, and maintain detailed records.
• Understanding of community resources and referral processes.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Working Conditions:
• May work in various settings, including community mental health agencies, hospitals, schools, and private practices.
• Potential for evening or weekend hours based on client needs.
• Regular supervision required until licensed.
This role is essential in providing supportive, client-centered mental health services and preparing for licensure as an LCSW.
