Position Purpose

The Assistant Principal is considered a ministerial employee by their role as Administrator. Administrators working in a Catholic School agree to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example these individuals support all the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives. Administrators agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission.

The Assistant Principal is a member of the administrative team and reports directly to the principal. In collaboration with the Principal, the Assistant Principal is expected to create a Catholic culture that not only encourages the active engagement of teachers and students, but that also instills within each child a genuine desire to learn.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Assistant Principal will...

Assume responsibility in the absence of the principal;

Assume responsibilities as delegated by the principal;

Attend meetings in place of the principal;

Assist in the preparation of student, teacher, and athletic handbooks;

Supervise student conduct including discipline and discipline records;

Participate in the teacher supervision process;

Assist in the review of teacher lesson plans;

Assist in the preparation of staff meetings and staff development programs;

Arrange for substitute teachers;

Coordinate student events and volunteer programs;

Assist in curriculum development and implementation;

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal. Education & Experience

It is highly recommended and preferred that the Assistant Principal be Catholic, but is not required

Holds a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning;

Possession of current Illinois administrative licensure (Illinois Professional Educator License with either a General Administrative (Type 75) or a Principal Endorsement) or is in an accredited program;

At least three years of successful teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic school, with knowledge and exposure that is sufficiently broad to provide an understanding of the preschool through grade eight structure;

Leadership experience preferred. Salary Range $53,951-$101,872

Final salary will be determined by relevant teaching experience and relevant education. Benefits

Physical abilities that are commonly associated with the performance of this job

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed.

Works in standard office and school building environments but also has ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
