PACO Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Inspector to support the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Reporting to the Resident Engineer, you will champion the quality, safety, and environmental integrity of bridge-painting operations-including traffic protection, containment installation, steel surface preparation, and multi-coat protective systems-ensuring each phase meets the Port Authority's exacting standards and extends the life of critical transportation links.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development (MTA C&D) is seeking two (2) Senior Inspectors - Bridge Painting to join PACO Group's field team supporting the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Business Unit in Suffolk County. Each Inspector will oversee steel-bridge coating programs at one of two locations:
Main Street North & Sea Road Bridge (Riverhead)
Medford & North Country Road Bridge (Medford) Scope of Work
Under the direction of the LIRR Project Manager / Resident Engineer, the Senior Inspector will be responsible for:
Inspection & Documentation
Reviewing bridge-painting designs, containment plans, surface-prep methods, and coating applications for full contract compliance (SSPC/NACE standards).
Monitoring Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT), scaffolding, environmental controls, and air-sampling protocols.
Recording detailed daily reports on contractor activities, labor/equipment, field tests, and non-conformances; submitting to LIRR each day.
Validating quantities and preparing invoice recommendations tied to actual progress. Coordination & Communication
Serving as the primary liaison among contractors, LIRR stakeholders, and other consultants-communicating issues promptly and clearly.
Participating in pre-construction, look-ahead, and weekend-work plan meetings; integrating schedules and resolving conflicts.
Coordinating Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) training for contractor personnel and ensuring safety credential compliance. Quality & Safety Assurance
Exercising Stop-Work Authority for unsafe or non-compliant conditions and driving corrective actions.
Performing pre-construction condition surveys and follow-up inspections to close out non-conformances.
Overseeing site mobilization, surface preparation, coating system application, final clean-up, and project closeout documentation. Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering - or - equivalent field experience.
8 years inspecting heavy-civil or rail projects, with 5 years focused on steel-bridge painting/coatings. Certifications & Licenses
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety (required).
NACE Coating Inspector Level II/III or SSPC BCI Level 2 (preferred).
Eligibility for LIRR Roadway Worker Protection credentials.
Valid driver's license and reliable transport within Suffolk County. Skills & Abilities
Proficient in interpreting contract documents, containment/MPT plans, and coating specifications.
Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
Proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and maintain schedule alignment.
Demonstrated expertise in SSPC/NACE standards, environmental compliance, and bridge-painting QA/QC.
