About this Opportunity:

The City of Hillsboro Public Works Department is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to join our development inspection team. In this role, you will support the inspection and coordination of public infrastructure projects within the public right of way. This includes oversight of stormwater systems, sanitary sewers, and street assets. Projects may range from residential and commercial developments to rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect public infrastructure assets in the right of way to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

Review engineering and construction plans prior to project start.

Facilitate pre-construction meetings with developers, contractors, and internal staff.

Manage and document daily construction inspections.

Coordinate and resolve conflicts with internal departments, contractors, and utility companies.

Use permit management software to track project status and documentation.

Ensure thorough and timely close-out of completed projects, including final inspections and records. Successful Candidates Will Have:

Experience in engineering, construction inspection, or related public works roles.

Strong understanding of storm, sewer, and street infrastructure systems.

Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications, and construction documents.

Excellent organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

Proficiency with permitting and project management systems (e.g., Accela, Cityworks, or similar). For full job classification details please click here.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Transportation, or Utilities Management, or a closely related field; and three years of journey-level experience in drafting, field inspection, engineering, surveying work, and/or data or computer analysis, including lead worker responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSE(S) / CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid, current Driver's License and safe driving record WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position works in an indoor office environment, but also is outdoors in the field, exposed to weather

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, intense noises, travel, and environmental conditions?
