Position Overview
The Scale Operator’s primary functions are to ensure each and every truck entering and leaving the facility is properly weighed, the delivered or shipped scrap is accurately recorded, and the daily paperwork and transactions are updated and closed. This individual reports directly to the Transportation Manager.
Summary of Responsibilities
Processes and closes all dispatch /driver tickets and enters required information into the database
Coordinates with Dispatch and Inside Sales to ensure shippers and receivers are being generated and updated accurately by the required deadlines
Maintains testing records and reports any issues/malfunctions with the Bicorn or other scale equipment
Ascertains the customer’s name, job location, and pickup dates for each delivery in order to accurately process this information
Begins, updates and closes each scale record ticket into the database / software
Reviews proper documentation for all deliveries and pick-ups
Always representing the company in a professional and courteous manner
Handles clerical/data entry functions assigned by the manager
Ensures efficient scale operations and scale flow
Ensures all trucks are properly and accurately weighed on the scale both entering and leaving the facility
Required Characteristics
High School Diploma or GED required, college degree or some college a plus
2 years’ experience in a similar role, equivalent transportation or scale related experience a plus
Organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong math and calculator skills a must
Demonstrated professionalism and a personality conducive to the role –enjoys working with people and is patient during challenging situations
Ability to work with others and work as part of a team
Proficient with computer / data entry skill; ability to learn new software with provided training
Strong attention to detail and accuracy a must
Must be open to working a Saturday schedule rotation
English proficiency (read, write, speak) required; spoken Spanish a plus
The Company desires a candidate who has shown a stable job history, dependable attendance practices and whose references can state is a trustworthy individual
Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical, background and credit check
Able to fulfill flexible scheduling requirements as determined by the manager and / or business needs of the operation
Minimum Safety Training Requirements
Basic on-the-job training that satisfies the Primary Objectives of the specific position (as noted above)
