Job Title: Assistant Director of Information Technology
Location: College Park, MD
Travel: Up to 10%
Reports To: Director of IT / CIO
Job Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on and strategic Assistant Director of IT to help lead our Information Technology operations. This role will support the Director of IT in overseeing infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems administration, and IT support functions, while managing a team of 5–6 technical professionals. The ideal candidate brings deep experience across Microsoft technologies, network security, and enterprise hardware systems, and thrives in both strategic planning and day-to-day troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day IT operations including network infrastructure, server management, system performance, and data security
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of IT staff supporting Tier 1 through Tier 3 functions
Support and maintain Windows Server environments and ensure optimal performance of Dell and HP servers and hardware
Administer Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and related cloud-based services
Configure and manage Symantec firewalls and other security appliances
Enforce IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance, security, and business continuity
Assist in the planning and execution of IT projects, upgrades, and strategic initiatives
Monitor and respond to cybersecurity threats; lead incident response and preventative measures
Collaborate with department heads to ensure technology solutions align with business needs
Manage vendor relationships and procurement of IT equipment and services
Travel up to 10% to support satellite offices or key projects
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
7+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
Expertise with Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Azure AD)
Strong hands-on experience with firewalls, especially Symantec, and enterprise-grade Dell/HP hardware
Solid understanding of cybersecurity best practices, policies, and risk mitigation strategies
Proven ability to manage, mentor, and lead an IT support team
Experience supporting server infrastructure, virtualization, and backup systems
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Ability to travel up to 10% as required
