About the position:
Lubbock Electric Company is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to prepare accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for industrial and commercial electrical projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, identifying labor, material, and time requirements, and preparing timely proposals for potential and existing clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical systems, the ability to interpret technical documents, excellent attention to detail, and effective communication skills. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Analyze project plans, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to produce accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates
Perform detailed material takeoffs and labor estimates for electrical installations, upgrades, and repairs in industrial and commercial facilities
Identify potential risks, project challenges, or areas of concern and incorporate them into estimates
Prepare detailed cost breakdowns including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and overhead
Collaborate with customers, electricians, and controls technicians to ensure estimates align with technical requirements and client goals
Solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors; maintain positive relationships with suppliers and partners to ensure competitive pricing and reliable service
Submit bid proposals on time and in accordance with bid specifications and company standards
Participate in pre-construction meetings, site visits, and customer discussions to clarify scope and expectations
Support the transition from estimating to project execution, assisting with budgeting and cost tracking.
Stay informed on industry trends, material and labor costs, and changes in electrical codes and safety standards
Update historical data and pricing tools to reflect current market conditions and improve future estimating accuracy
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical estimating, especially with industrial or heavy commercial projects
In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft 365 programs, like Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong math and analytical skills, with the ability to accurately calculate quantities, labor units, material costs, and other project-related figures
Strong attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with clients, vendors, and internal teams effectively
Self-motivated and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Analytical and inquisitive skills
Strong business acumen and sound judgment
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and follow established procedures and protocols
Eligibility to work in the USA
Preferred Qualifications:
Journeyman or Master Electrician license
Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar designation
Proficiency with electrical estimating software, such as McCormick or similar tools
Work Environment:
The Electrical Estimator will work at a desk in a climate-controlled office but will be required to travel to customer sites with the potential for exposure to moving mechanical parts, rotating equipment, forklifts, loud noises, etc.
Work Schedule: 8:00 to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday
Pay Range: $30 to $35 per hour, depending on qualifications and quality of references
