The Financial Controller is a critical, hands-on role responsible for building and maturing the company’s accounting infrastructure during a period of rapid growth. As our first dedicated Controller, you will lay the foundation for scalable financial operations, instill discipline in core accounting processes, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. This role requires a strong technical accounting background paired with operational savvy and a proactive mindset.
Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you will play a central role in driving financial visibility and accountability across the organization. You will support the Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) functions, ensuring that transactional activities are timely, accurate, and compliant with internal controls. You’ll lead the month-end close process, support the implementation of NetSuite, and partner cross-functionally to deliver insights that inform strategic decision-making. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Leadership: Own the month-end close process, general ledger maintenance, and preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Team Collaboration: Support AR and AP staff, establishing best practices and driving accountability, consistency and accuracy.
Internal Controls & Models: Design and implement scalable accounting policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and financial accuracy. Support VP of Finance with development of internal P&L’s, costing models and trade spend support and analysis.
Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders, including variance analysis and performance insights.
Audit & Compliance: Manage all audit processes (internal, external, and tax), and ensure compliance with relevant laws and accounting standards.
State and Federal Tax: help with the reporting, analysis and management of state sales taxes were appropriate.
Systems & Process Improvement: Support the ongoing implementation of NetSuite, and identify opportunities to automate and improve processes.
Cash Management: Monitor cash flow and help forecast working capital needs.
Cross-functional Support: Collaborate closely with Operations, Sales, and other teams to ensure alignment and support data-driven decision making.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
6+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including 2+ years in a controller or assistant controller role (within CPG industry)
Experience working with AR/AP functions and small finance teams
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls
Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative team player
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
