We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our growing consumer products business. This role will play a key part in maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, overseeing accounting operations, and partnering across functions to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with experience in a fast-paced, product-driven environment. This role will report to the Controller and oversee one Accounting Manager.
WHAT YOU DO:
Oversee and perform accounting functions, including but not limited to month-end close, intercompany accounting, taxes, financial reporting, financial audits, fixed assets, cash management
Work on automation and technology projects to continuously improve HOURGLASS’ finance processes
Prepare and review closing journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet account reconciliations
Support annual audit and liaise with external auditors, ensuring all schedules and documentation are prepared accurately and on time
Ensure compliance with internal controls and corporate policies
Drive working capital improvements, through monitoring and analysis of key balance sheet accounts: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory
Aid in the preparation and analysis of company financials, alongside Controller and CFO
Manage/prepare taxes; corporate income tax, indirect taxes (sales and use tax, VAT, GST/HST), property taxes and other taxes/business licenses
Supervise and develop accounting team members (this role will have one Accounting Manager reporting to it)
Support special projects such as systems upgrades, cost analysis, or others as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a consumer products, manufacturing, or distribution environment
BA/BS required
CPA preferred
Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS and internal control frameworks
Audit or Big4 experience a strong plus
Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of data management tools
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly collaborative, detail oriented and resourceful
Must be able to work from Corporate Office at least 60% of the time.
The expected base salary range for this position is $125,000.00 to $ 135,000.00. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including experience, skills, education, geographic location, and budget.
This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan, based on personal performance and company results.
