Overview The Vermont Criminal Justice Council (VCJC) is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven leader to serve as Deputy Director of the Vermont Police Academy.
This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in shaping the future of law enforcement in Vermont by overseeing the operational functions of the Academy and supporting professional standards statewide.
The Deputy Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Vermont Police Academy.
This includes oversight of facilities, training programs, security, and compliance activities, as well as supervision of staff and coordination with state partners.
The position will work closely with the Executive Director and Administrative Director to ensure the Academy runs smoothly and fulfills its critical mission.
This role blends operational leadership with public service impact.
The Deputy Director will help implement statewide police reform initiatives, manage key training programs for law enforcement, and safeguard the property and personnel that make this important work possible.
Key Responsibilities: * Provide operational oversight for the Vermont Police Academy, including supervision of training coordinators and the management of Level II and Level III basic training programs.
* Manage facility operations, including the firing range, armory, vehicles, equipment, and security for buildings and residential areas.
* Coordinate building access and scheduling for internal staff, statewide law enforcement agencies, and community organizations using the property.
* Serve as the primary contact with Buildings and General Services (BGS) for facilities-related needs and budget tracking.
* Supervise the VCJC Investigator and help manage the investigation schedule related to professional regulation under Act 56.
* Act as a designee in the Executive Director's absence, including handling communications and approvals for professional regulation matters.
* Support strategic planning and statewide police reform efforts, including policy development, compliance oversight, and emergency preparedness.
* Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across contracts, grants, and operational protocols.
* Assist with procurement and contract management activities as needed.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and solutions-oriented leader with a passion for public safety, education, and operational excellence.
Experience in organizational management, law enforcement, or public administration is preferred.
