Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Department: Field Operations
Reports to: Vice President of Field Operations
Job Summary:
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing all site construction activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves coordinating field operations, managing subcontractor performance, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and team members. The Superintendent plays a key role in driving the project’s success by effectively managing resources, addressing challenges proactively, and ensuring the overall safety and security of the job site.
Key Responsibilities:
• Site Management: Coordinate and supervise all on-site activities, including staging plans, logistics, and workflow management, ensuring the efficient use of resources and adherence to project timelines.
• Subcontractor Coordination: Review subcontractor scopes of work, submittals, and invoices for compliance and coordination, providing feedback to the Project Manager as necessary.
• Budget and Cost Control: Assist the Project Manager with job cost reporting, budget control, and procurement of materials. Ensure cost-effective practices are employed throughout the construction process.
• Scheduling and Reporting: Collaborate with the Project Manager to maintain and update construction schedules, prepare and update 3-week look ahead schedules, identify potential issues in pre-construction meetings, and prepare daily and safety reports.
• Safety and Compliance: Promote a culture of safety on the job site, ensuring all employees and contractors adhere to company safety policies and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular safety meetings and rectify any identified hazards immediately.
• Training and Development: Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training field crew members, project engineers, and junior superintendents. Provide safety orientations and ongoing training to ensure team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
• Project Closeout: Oversee the completion of final punch lists, ensure the project meets all quality standards, and facilitate the successful closeout of the project.
Qualifications:
• Location: This position is for on-site construction superintendent willing to travel to sites located in NC, SC, GA, and East TN. Must be willing to travel to areas where projects are located. This role typically takes place within 200 miles of Columbia, SC.
• Education and Experience:At least 5 years experience preferred as a Superintendent. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
• Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of field supervision, quality control, scheduling, safety, and production in all phases of construction. Proficiency in Procore and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is preferred.
• Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to resolve problems, organize tasks, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Licensing and Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Training preferred or the ability to obtain upon hire. A valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation is required.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift, reach, bend, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Must be able to adapt to high noise levels and stressful work conditions, operating both office equipment and tools used on construction sites.
Work Environment:
• Primarily on-site at construction locations, with occasional office-based work. The environment includes exposure to varying weather conditions, loud noises, and construction hazards.
• Standard business hours with the potential for extended hours depending on project demands.
