We are searching for expertise, practical experience, and visionary thinking in metal additive manufacturing (3D printing of metals), Cold spray, advanced materials, and advanced machining and finishing technologies. Our customers are based across the country and include world-class leaders in the aerospace, automotive, consumer products, electronics, medical, energy & chemical, government, and heavy manufacturing industries.
In our additive manufacturing focus area, we are looking to build a team of engineers and technicians that will be innovating in the areas of metals-based additive manufacturing as well as functional printing, rapid prototyping, free-form fabrication, and rapid prototyping techniques.
We are currently looking to fill a technician position whose primary responsibility will be to execute projects under the direction of the AM engineering staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support AM engineering staff in the execution of additive manufacturing projects according to project schedules
Set-up and operation of a variety of metal 3D printing systems including cold spray, laser powder bed and DED supporting equipment and hardware including maintenance and repair of equipment from time to time
Work with various types of analytical equipment to characterize feedstock powders and metals produced by the various AM processes (including but not limited to metallography, mechanical testing and metrology)
Collect necessary data to support project objectives and reporting requirements
Understand 2D and 3D drawings and be able to extract pertinent data
Support equipment preventative maintenance schedule and calibration efforts as needed
Support project engineers and project managers in project planning processes by identifying and estimating level-of-effort required for proposed projects
Mechanical assembly of tooling, fixtures, and equipment enhancements
Maintain accurate and legible records of project work and test results
Achieve established work-area cleanliness standards and maintain a high-degree of organization in work area(s) Minimum Requirements
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Good working knowledge of 5-axis machining
Basic knowledge of and experience with machine tool practices and standard cutting methodologies for various materials
Experience with and general knowledge of automated and electrical controls and mechanical equipment
Proficient use of measurement tools including calipers and micrometers.
Desire to perform and energized by performing work in a hands-on role
Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Proven ability to function in a fast-paced, project-based, environment
Excellent organizational and planning skills and ability to work well, despite numerous interruptions
Ability to prioritize project work and other responsibilities
Exhibit and maintain positive, solutions-oriented attitude toward work and co-workers
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in assigned tasks
Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of associates
Team-oriented attitude and focus with strong ability to collaborate with others PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level;
Use finger dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, manipulate, and measure;
Frequently move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stoop, bend, and crouch; and
Lift ten to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and 40 to 80 pounds occasionally EDUCATION:
Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred
Technical degree in relevant area of study is considered favorable
High School Diploma and applicable experience is acceptable EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) or more years of experience in 5-axis machining and/or robotics programming (i.e., C and C++, JAVA, Python, MATLAB)
Electromechanical troubleshooting experience
Experience working on various metal working machines (i.e., mills, lathes, etc.)
Experience working with microscopes and various metallurgical equipment (i.e., cross sectioning, mounting, polishing and microscopy) is considered a plus but not required
Working knowledge and/or experience in mechanical testing (i.e., tensile, hardness, fatigue etc) is considered a plus but not required
