Baffinland Iron Mines is seeking motivated and detail-oriented Engineers in Training (EITs) to join our Maintenance and Reliability teams. These roles are part of a structured graduate development program designed to build technical expertise within a high-performance mining operation in the Canadian Arctic.Successful candidates will gain hands-on experience in either maintenance engineering or reliability engineering, depending on business needs and the candidate’s interests and strengths.Maintenance Engineers in Training will report to the Maintenance Manager and support the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of maintenance activities for equipment and facilities.
Main Accountabilities
• Assist in the development, implementation, and optimization of maintenance performance improvement strategies for mining equipment and facilities.• Analyze equipment performance data and failure modes to identify trends and recommend improvements.• Support root cause analysis (RCA), reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and condition monitoring activities.• Work closely with maintenance, operations, and planning teams to support day-to-day reliability tasks and long-term asset management initiatives.• Collaborate with drill and blast, mining engineers and other technical professionals to create cross-functional synergies• Assist managers in setting OPEX/CAPEX budgets by advising on technical analyses• Participate in inspections, audits, and continuous improvement projects.• Maintain detailed records and reports on maintenance and reliability metrics.• Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines required in a high-risk industrial setting.
Main Qualifications
• Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline • Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with a Canadian provincial engineering association.• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.• Ability to work in a remote Arctic environment on a fly-in/fly-out rotational schedule.
• Internship, co-op, or practical experience in mining, heavy industry, or maintenance environments.• Familiarity with maintenance systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and reliability concepts (RCM, FMEA, RCA).• Passion for maintenance excellence, operational efficiency, and long-term asset health.
