Job Summary:
A career as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologist is exciting for those who are passionate about health care, patient comfort and saving lives. As a technologist, you are asked to operate MRI scanners and to ensure that the procedure produces quality images and information for the health care professional to make an accurate diagnosis. You have the chance to work and interact directly with patients as you ensure that they are comfortable and calm. Utilize your medical knowledge by interviewing patients, explaining the procedure and placing the patient in the appropriate spot on the table. Technologists are also organized, detail-oriented people who are familiar with the anatomical area that is being scanned and the patient’s history. Develop relationships with patients as you help diagnose their condition as an MRI technologist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operate equipment for imaging and anything related on various areas of the body in order to provide high quality images and information for patient diagnosis.
Address patient concerns during the procedures and explain the MRI process to the patient in a way that is informative but also reassuring.
Use tact, courtesy and poise when dealing with patients, keeping them calm and ensuring that they get the best care possible.
Communicate effectively with other radiologists and health care professionals to ensure the message is getting across appropriately.
Troubleshoot peripheral equipment and scanners to ensure that equipment is operating properly to avoid downtime or delays that affect patient satisfaction.
Ensure patient safety with aseptic injection technique and pre-screening for any contra-indications before the procedure.
Provide training to new technologists with regular checks, direction and qualified work samples performed by an experienced team member.
Handle high-stress environments in a calm manner when dealing with patients, technicians and physicians.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology.
Work Experience – 3-5 yrs. MRI experience preferred
Training- 3-5 yrs. MRI experience
License/Certification – ARRT and State of New Mexico certifications; current compliance with CME requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate.
ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The MRI Technologist operates the magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions.
