Position Purpose
The Special Education Coordinator supports special education staff and administration by providing necessary resources and materials, managing caseloads, facilitating transitions, and ensuring effective communication to enhance student learning.
Essential Job Functions
Attend Monthly coordinator meetings at Admin Building, take any questions or concerns, report back information to the building SPED staff.
Lead SPED monthly dept meetings.
Work with the Northside special education coordinator on the movement of students between the two middle schools.
Use transition information to help determine caseloads for the next school year.
Communicate and work with 6th-grade special education teachers of record on the transition of students to middle school.
Attend some 6th-grade transition conferences upon request, or determine if another teacher would be more appropriate.
Communicate and work with high school special education department chairs on coordinating the transition of 8th graders to high school.
Keep track of caseloads within the building - includes reminders to keep the shared document up to date.
Consult with counselors/administrators on move-in students to determine caseload placement.
Communicate caseloads with building administrators, grade-level counselors, and the dean.
Communicate with building special education staff with reminders of required job responsibilities, upcoming events, answering questions as they arise, and seeking answers when necessary.
Communicate and work with building administration regarding building-level issues as they affect special education.
Attend open houses/events to represent the special education department, and answer questions parents may have. Additional Duties:
Assist building administration, as needed.

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.

Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. Qualifications Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Central Middle School Certified staff member
