We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Design Group in our Fairfax, VA office. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP, you will play a pivotal role in the design and execution of mechanical engineering projects across various industries, including government, education, transportation, and commercial. You will lead project teams, provide technical expertise, and contribute to the success and growth of our firm.

Responsibilities:

Project Leadership: Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams in the design and execution of mechanical systems for various building types and applications.

Engineering Design: Develop and review detailed mechanical designs, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with local codes and industry standards.

Client Engagement: Collaborate closely with clients to understand their needs, provide expert guidance, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet their goals and expectations.

Technical Expertise: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.

Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality and accuracy of design documents, calculations, and specifications produced by the engineering team.

Budget and Schedule Management: Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines.

Mentorship: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers and staff members, fostering their professional growth.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program. Master's degree preferred.

16+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the consulting industry.

Professional Engineer (PE) license in the commonwealth of Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Proficient knowledge of a variety of mechanical system designs, including DX packaged systems, hydronic systems, chilled water plants, heating water plants, and plumbing.

Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software.

Familiarity with relevant codes and guidelines.

Experience in sustainable design practices.

Excellent interdisciplinary coordination skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
