DEPARTMENT: Research & Development (R&D)

REPORTS TO: Senior Design Engineer

DURATION: 6-8 Weeks

FORMAT: In-Person (3-4 days)

24-32 Hours

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Engineering Intern will assist the design and engineering team in updating and creating CAD drawings for fall protection products. This internship will provide hands-on experience in product design and development, focusing on technical drawing and documentation. The intern will work for 6-8 weeks during the summer, with a flexible schedule of 20-32 hours per week.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with engineers and designers to ensure drawings accurately reflect design intent and specifications.

Update and create detailed CAD drawings for new product designs and improvements to existing products.

Assist in maintaining and updating technical documentation, including product drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and revision records.

Support the prototyping and evaluation of new product designs.

Ensure compliance with internal and industry standards through accurate and precise documentation.

Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback on design improvements.

Assist in product testing to validate design accuracy and compliance.

Provide technical support to manufacturing personnel, supplier partners, and Quality functions.

Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and update drawings accordingly.

Enter and maintain product data in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system as needed.

Work according to established company processes and ISO procedures.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.

Basic knowledge in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

Working knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, designers, and other departments.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under time and resource constraints.

Preferred:

Experience in drafting for fall protection or safety products.

Understanding of common prototyping and manufacturing processes including machining, welding, cutting, and sheet metal fabrication.

Familiarity with regulated and compliance-driven product lines.

Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.

Resourceful and willing to learn new skills, processes, or technologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves extended periods of computer usage and desk work.

Occasional walking or standing may be required during collaborative meetings.

Access to the testing, manufacturing, and warehouse premises necessitates the utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), encompassing items such as Fall Protection, Eye Protection, Hard Hat, and Safety Shoes.
