Responsibilities
As a Steel Estimator, your key responsibility will be to prepare budgets, estimates, and proposals for steel fabrication and erection scopes of work on commercial construction projects. You will be involved in the entire estimating process from securing and maintaining bid documents, following specifications, performing takeoff, requesting quotes from suppliers/subcontractors, and meeting all summary requirements for proposal submission to Owners/General Contractors
Essential Functions
Perform accurate and thorough quantity take-offs
Use available historical data to determine productivity and pricing rates
Conduct site visits as a part of the estimating process
Prepare estimates with current software in accordance with company standards
Organize and format estimates for ease of comprehension by the end user
Review estimates with the Steel Division Manager and various Wilhelm staff
Ensure vendor interface for current material pricing and availability
Participate as necessary in transfer of project to operations staff to ensure successful handover
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations to include health, safety, and welfare
Ensure compliance with AISC protocols and requirements per the Wilhelm Quality Management Program
Facilitate the subcontractor bid process
Assume a proactive role in the bidding and negotiations for the project
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements
Required
Intermediate understanding of Windows Operating Systems:
Advanced skill level with MS Excel
Intermediate skill level with MS Word, Microsoft Outlook/Exchange
Preferred
Knowledge of estimating software a plus.
Intermediate skill level with Onscreen Takeoff
Intermediate skill level with Tekla EPM

What it takes
B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years commercial construction experience in estimating.
