The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Director of Revenue Assurance. Reporting to the Principal Lead for Constituent Management, the Director of Revenue Assurance is responsible for serving as the chief strategist and operational leader responsible for all aspects of contribution revenue accounting.
This role sets the strategic direction for revenue assurance and leads cross-functional efforts to optimize financial operations and donor data integration.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Revenue Management: Define and lead the strategic vision for revenue assurance. Establish and enforce revenue recognition policies and internal controls in accordance with applicable
standards. Direct complex reconciliations between donor CRM, banking systems, and general ledger. Serve as the primary contact for audits related to contribution revenue. Drive continuous improvements to revenue cycle processes, integrations, and data integrity. Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Revenue Assurance team, including direct supervision of the Assistant Director.
Strategic & Operational Leadership: Act as the principal strategist for revenue assurance across UTFI. Set departmental vision, objectives, and policy in alignment with industry and organizational
standards. Partner with executive and finance leaders to refine reporting, compliance, and audit strategies. Create and execute strategies that ensure accurate, compliant, and timely revenue reporting. Participate in strategic planning with the Principal Lead of Central Constituent Management. Continuously evaluate processes for improvement opportunities and lead change management initiatives. Recommend and implement technologies and tools that support compliance and operational effectiveness.
Supervisory & Team Management: Supervise and develop Revenue Assurance team members, including the Assistant Director. Coordinate financial accuracy efforts across all campuses and serve as a point of escalation for complex issues. Oversee department metrics, quality control, and process innovation.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
The candidate who fills the Director Revenue Assurance position is required to have:
Bachelor’s degree
5+ years of experience in financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and regulatory compliance
2+ years in a leadership or managerial role
ERP system experience
Excellent leadership and team management skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Efficient communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to collaborate across departments and with executive leadership
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.
Note - Candidates holding a graduate degree must have at least 3 years of experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:
Master’s degree
Prior experience in nonprofit, higher education, or governmental accounting preferred
7+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong emphasis on revenue recognition, reconciliations, and financial controls; non-profit sector experience preferred
