Pingree seeks an athletic trainer to provide support on a substitute or per diem basis to our Athletics Training staff. This position will provide coverage for our staff athletic trainers when they are absent for professional development, planned absences, or illness. We also need support for various tournaments and events during the school year. We anticipate that there will be approximately 1-3 shifts available per month during the school year. Work is primarily based in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends.

The substitute Athletic Trainer will work with students competing on Pingree’s 45 interscholastic teams across 24 different sports. Eighty percent of Pingree students participate in athletics in any given season; teams play full schedules of home and away games, including evening and weekend contests.

The ideal Substitute Athletic Trainer will possess a strong work ethic, problem solving skills, communication skills (both written and verbal), and flexibility. This individual will also be expected to assist in managing the day to day workings of the athletic training room and assisting with game operations duties.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

First Aid/Wound care, taping, Injury evaluation, supervision of pre-existing rehabilitation programs, and KT taping techniques

Understanding of schools EAP’s and Concussion management protocols

Assisting in daily field setup and break down of practice and game venues

Experience and comfortability driving John Deere Gators a plus

Ability to lift and move 3-10 gallon water coolers

Experience and/or knowledge of 2 way radio communication system for coverage and emergency situations

Upkeep of athletic training room and equipment found within

Accurate record keeping/documentation of injuries and communication of injuries and incidents with the staff athletic trainers

Game and practice coverage, sometimes in conjunction with a staff athletic trainer, on both weekdays and weekends as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Afternoon Programs or the Head Athletic Trainer

Coverage of traveling Pingree varsity teams when deemed necessary by the Director of Athletics and Afternoon Programs or the Head Athletic Trainer

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Head Athletic Trainer

Job Requirements:

1-3 years of experience in athletic training

Passion for working with and developing high school student-athletes

A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion and anti-racism and the ability to foster inclusive team culture

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a CAATE accredited program

Current BOC certification; licensed in Massachusetts to practice

Current CPR certification in accordance with BOC guidelines

Knowledge of or familiarity with SportsWare Online program for record-keeping purposes is a plus

Physical demands including lifting items (up to 50 pounds) and working outdoors in all elements

Schedule will likely include evening and weekend work with sporadic occurrences

Availability on short notice a plus for last minute staff trainer illness needs
