Introduction The\nGovernor's Office of Crime Prevention and Policy serves as a coordinating\noffice that advises the Governor on criminal justice strategies.

The office\nplans, promotes, and funds efforts with government entities, private\norganizations, and the community to advance public policy, enhance public\nsafety, reduce crime and juvenile delinquency, and serve victims.\n GRADE 18\n LOCATION OF POSITION 6776 Reisterstown Rd., Baltimore, MD\n Main Purpose of Job The\nCriminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB) is a remedial body designed to aidand\nassist Maryland victims of crime.

CICB receives and reviews a high volume ofclaims\nfor reimbursement from individuals related to expenses incurred due to theirvictimization.\n\nThe\nParalegal will assist the CICB in managing claims, conducting research,\ndraftingopinions,\nand providing administrative support.

The ideal candidate will understand howto\nread, interpret, apply, and explain Maryland law, have excellent organizational\nskills,and\nhave a commitment to helping victims of crime.\nCase\nReview\n●\nDaily review for sufficiency and accuracy of claims bullet points as provided\nby the victim compensation analysts;\n●\nCraft claims decision language for the Deputy Director's review;\n●\nWork with the Deputy Director to review Board decisions; \nLegal\nResearch, Analysis, Policy, and Compliance\n● Ensure compliance with relevant laws,\nregulations, and policies.\n●\nAssist victim compensation analysts with legal interpretation and application;\n●\nProvide ad hoc legal research using LexisNexis and work with the Deputy\nDirector on legal matters related to consultations, claims preparations, Board\nsubmissions, and appellate reviews.\n●\nParticipates in reviewing and revising CICB regulations and policies.\nAdministrative\nSupport\n●\nCoordinate Board meetings, prepare agendas, and take minutes.\n●\nPrepare and organize materials for board meetings and hearings.\n●\nMaintain accurate records of all activities and correspondence.\n●\nPrepare files for Board reconsideration hearings and Circuit Court appeals.\n●\nOther tasks as determined by the Deputy Director.\n\n*This\nis a special appointment position which serves at the pleasure of the\nappointing authority*\n\n\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:\nGraduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school\nequivalency certificate.\nExperience:\nSix years of administrative staff or professional work.\nNotes:\n1.\nCandidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or\nuniversity for each year up to four years of the required experience.\n2.\nCandidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an\naccredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative\nstaff or professional work for the required experience.\n3.\nCandidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an\naccredited college or university for the required experience.\n4.\nCandidates may substitute U.S.

Armed Forces military service experience as a\ncommissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of\nrules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or\ncoordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher\nranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required\nexperience.\n DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference\nwill be given to candidates who have one or more of the following skillsets or\nexperience:\nAt\nleast one year of professional experience as an administrator, legal assistant,\nor paralegal in a law office or legal services organization.\nCompletion\nof a paralegal or legal assistant certificate program or academic coursework\nrelated to legal research and writing.\n SELECTION PROCESS Please make sure that you provide sufficient information on your application to show that you meet the qualifications for this recruitment.
