Position Summary
The HR Generalist is a hands-on partner and culture champion supporting the Stick Pack Division in Irwindale. This role acts as the first point of contact for HR at the site—focused on delivering results through people, supporting production leaders, and ensuring compliance, safety, and employee engagement. The Generalist will collaborate with the VP of Operations on day-to-day needs and with the Director of HR on strategic initiatives aligned to WPIA’s tenets: Safety, Quality, Profitability, People Development, and Transition with Performance.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Lifecycle & Talent Development
Partner with hiring managers to recruit, screen, and onboard top talent (direct and agency), with a focus on skills alignment and cultural fit.
Support new hire orientation, 30/60/90-day onboarding, and retention programs.
Participate in succession planning and the 9-Block process to identify and grow high-potential employees.
Coordinate and track skills matrix progression and development plans for PMOs and frontline staff.
Employee Relations & Compliance
Act as a trusted advisor to employees and supervisors, resolving workplace issues with professionalism and empathy.
Coach frontline leaders in providing clear, consistent, and timely feedback.
Conduct internal investigations, assist with corrective action documentation, and escalate high-risk issues to the Director of HR.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws (CA specific), WPIA policies, and staffing agency contracts.
Lead safety roundtables and reinforce safety accountability with Operations.
Performance & Culture
Reinforce WPIA’s values and behaviors by encouraging peer-to-peer coaching and participation in recognition programs.
Drive performance review process execution, coaching leaders on goal setting, documentation, and accountability.
Champion initiatives to build unity between departments and support high-performing team culture.
Partner with HR and Operations leadership to support cross-functional projects including training, communication, and engagement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred.
5+ years of progressive HR experience in manufacturing, packaging, or food industries.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, high-volume, hands-on environment.
ADP Workforce Now experience preferred.
PHR or SHRM-CP certification a plus.
Ability to manage priorities with discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
