Summary:
To transport and deliver hazardous and non-hazardous cargo to customers and other facilities by applying knowledge and skills for operating a commercial motor vehicle safely and properly as required by company policy and Federal, State, and Local laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds and in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, darkness, inclement weather; must be able to operate equipment in all types of weather conditions. This includes going forward and backing-up long and short distances, around corners and in and out of very tight areas.
Properly operate all controls and equipment for the safe loading and unloading of cargo, including operating and manipulating a manual pallet jack.
Properly stow and secure all cargo and equipment prior to movement as required by US DOT regulations and company policy.
Professional representation of the company through responsible driving and appearance.
Inspect CMV for defects to insure safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a documented report on the condition of the CMV at the end of each trip or tour of duty.
Check shipping papers to determine nature of the load and verify for accuracy, including proper display of all required placards at all times.
Properly drive CMV to and from designated destinations of up to the maximum hours as DOT hours-of-service rules allow.
Comply with all company and customer safety and delivery requirements, including wearing the required personal protective equipment when required.
Report all accidents, incidents, suspicious activity, and security concerns involving company equipment, company personnel, and customer property in a timely manner.
Report all road safety hazards and customer delivery hazards noted in route in a timely manner.
Promptly report any delays due to equipment failures, breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions, any emergencies, event or irregularities related to the pickup or delivery of cargo.
Promptly report any driver license suspensions, license revocations, or any motor vehicle citations received while operating a company or personal motor vehicle,
Properly maintain record requirements for compliance with State and Federal regulations including driver’s record of duty status, mileage records, emergency response information and other records required by law.
Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to truck operation, freight movement, or customer deliveries.
Comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations for the safe operation of a CMV during driving, loading, transporting and unloading.
Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Competency Requirements:
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and hazardous material endorsement.
A valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC), when required.
Must have a minimum of two years commercial motor vehicle experience. Hazardous materials experience preferred, but not required
Must be able to read and write English.
Must be able to sufficiently speak and understand English to communicate, read traffic signs, respond to official inquiries, complete reports, handle receipts, route instructions, read maps, computer screens, and maintain a record of duty status, and other paperwork manually or via electronic devices.
Must be able to perform basic math calculations
Must have working knowledge of vehicles and controls to safely operate a CMV, as well as obey applicable Department of Transportation regulations.
Must have working knowledge of cargo securement devices such as chains, straps, binders, etc.
Working knowledge of a pallet jack, forklift and/or dolly is preferred, but not required.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one-year commercial tanker driving experience required. Class A CDL with Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements required.
Physical Demands:
Must meet the medical standards of the US Department of Transportation at time of hire and routinely thereafter as required by law.
Must satisfactorily pass a drug and/or alcohol at hire and routinely thereafter as required by the US Department of Transportation and company drug free workplace program.
Must be able to not smoke while operating tractor-trailer, within 25-feet of the tractor-trailer and within company facility as well as customer delivery sites.
Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 11 hours.
Must be able to maneuver fuel and other hazardous material hoses.
Must be able to shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
Must be able to enter and exit the truck cab and trailer up to thirty times a day.
Must be able to spend at least 50% of the work day standing and walking on surfaces such as paved surfaces, bare ground, gravel, concrete, dirt and uneven surfaces.
Must be able to bend at and below waist level, including squatting, and reaching above shoulder level.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to pull and push in excess of 1500 pounds using a manual pallet jack.
Must be able to safely climb a vehicle ladder, and heights up to 20 feet.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment when required by the work being performed, company or customer policy.
Work Environment:
Driver may spend up to 50% of time outdoors exposed to potentially difficult environmental conditions. This position may have exposure to hazardous conditions requiring use of personal protective equipment, in addition to exposure to traffic, vehicle noise, and vibration normally incidental to operating a commercial motor vehicle. Drivers may also be subject to irregular work schedules (including working weekends and holidays), temperature, weather, long trips, short notice of assignment of trip, tight delivery schedule, delays in route, and other stresses and fatigues related to driver a commercial motor vehicle on highways and streets in both urban and rural areas.
