Salary: $17 to $18.50 hourly D.O.E

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The basic function of the Forklift Operator position for Tri Star Freight System, Inc. (TSFS) is the loading and unloading of incoming/outgoing tractor trailers (containers, dry van`s for storage and/or shipment). Identifying damages and reporting shortages or quality deficiencies.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Forklift Operator reports directly to and is fully accountable to the Warehouse Manager and COO of TSFS.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience:

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must have at least one years experience in the Transportation, Freight, Supply Chain and/or Logistics Industry.

Must have at least one years experience as a certified forklift operator.

Must have at least one years experience working with the communications within a warehouse/storage facility and in fulfilling general duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Must have at least one years experience in maintaining proper records and files via paper and electronic tablets.

Required Licensing, Registration and Certifications:

Must be a certified forklift operator (or must be able to pass a forklift operator certification class within 2 weeks of hire date)

Valid Drivers License

Required Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to effectively communicate, in English, both verbally and in writing.

Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently or in a team setting.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure.

Must be available and willing to work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Working overtime and some Saturdays is required based on business needs.

Must be highly reliable.

Must be highly dependable as attendance, being on time as well as being at work as expected is very important.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Punches in on time and is available for work at the beginning of the shift.

Ensures that all equipment is operated in a safe manner.

Participates in monthly safety meetings.

Load and unload trucks carefully, without incident.

Reads and understands all load/unload paperwork, documents.

Follow proper procedures for damages.

Keep yard/warehouse free and clear of debris and trash.

Sweeping the warehouse area.

Empties trash dumpster.

Pulls all freight before loading, double checks freight and documents.

Reads and understands all import and export documents.

Correctly measures export/import crates.

Repairs any boxes as needed due to damages.

Verifies seal numbers on containers and follow procedures.

Familiar with countries/stuffing containers.

Understands unload sheets do not unload any freight without unload sheet.

Load/unload containers by hand if required.

Understands stripping reports.

Daily inspection of forklift using checklist.

Jumpstarts equipment, as necessary.

Ensure that all necessary tasks are completed before the end of the shift.

Maintain and operate other warehouse equipment in a safely manner.

Must follow and comply with all company rules, regulations, policies, guidelines and good housekeeping habits.

Maintains cooperative and positive working relationships with customers, co-workers, peers, vendors, and the business community.

Perform all position related functions, duties, and responsibilities in a safe and professional manner.

Complete any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position will be working primarily in a warehouse environment. From this movement (outdoors and warehouse), the employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures.

The noise level in the work environment is higher in the warehouse and/or outdoors.

The normal workday will be from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, the hours will be longer when specific projects are due; thus, some extended schedules including weekend work will be necessary.

The physical requirements are sitting to drive mobile equipment, and walking is required within the warehouse/office area. This position requires, besides walking, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending, and flexing the arms, legs, wrists and fingers.

Because of the responsibilities of record maintenance and exchanging propane tanks, the Forklift Operator must be able to safely lift 35 lbs. or greater. The storage requirements will require the forklift operator to lift letter and legal-size storage boxes full of records which include standing on short ladders and lifting heavy boxes of 20 lbs. or greater.
