Samtec is seeking a Product Engineering Manager to join our Optoelectronics team in Colorado Springs, CO.

Our product engineers collaborate closely with the new product development leaders and the engineering discipline experts to ensure the product is well-development for manufacturing, and that a complete and accurate design and fabrication document package accompanies the launch of our new products. The product engineers become resident experts for released products, coordinating product improvements and sustainment with a cross-functional team. The product engineering manager will help define the best practices and mentor the team of product engineers for our line of optical transceivers.

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:

Manage and mentor a team of product engineers focused on designing and refining optoelectronic assemblies, such as optical transceivers.

Contribute to product development through Design For Manufacturing and Design For Test

Join product development at the Alpha to Beta transition to ensure design is well-documented and has sufficient margin for performance validation, reliability qualification, production ramp, and manufacturing yield

Contribute to optimization of assembly designs for efficiency, reliability, and manufacturability, incorporating advanced materials and photonic technologies.

Implement control plans and manufacturing tests to ensure production satisfies market needs

Partner with production and supply chain teams to transition designs into scalable manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEC, RoHS).

Own design integrity for product after transition from Beta to production. Maintain the set of product requirements and design artifacts and coordinate engineering change management post product release.

Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to optoelectronic performance.

Track engineering orders through product development lifecycle to ensure delivery of new optoelectronic products on schedule and within cost targets.

Stay informed on advancements in optoelectronics (e.g., laser technologies, fiber optics) to guide innovation and maintain competitive product offerings. Required Experience:

10+ years of experience in product engineering, with several years in a managerial role focused on optoelectronic systems or assemblies.

Deep technical expertise in optoelectronic design, including optical components, semiconductor devices, and assembly processes.

Experience leading teams in the development of optoelectronic products, from prototyping to high-volume production.

Expertise in product lifecycle management processes and tools, including requirements definition and management

Proficiency with engineering tools like CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), optical simulation software (e.g., Zemax), and project management platforms.

Knowledge of manufacturing techniques for optoelectronics, such as precision assembly, cleanroom protocols, and quality assurance standards.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to solve complex technical problems and unite cross-functional teams.

(Optional: Familiarity with specific optoelectronic applications, e.g., telecommunications, medical devices, or aerospace, if applicable.) Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, Materials Science, Semiconductor Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field (Master's Degree is preferred).

Salary and benefit offerings:

The preferred location for this position is the Samtec Microelectronics facility in Colorado Springs, CO. At this facility the salary range for this position would be in the range of $143 - $179K per year and is commensurate with experience + plus generous Samtec bonuses paid three times per year in February, August and late fall.
