Position Summary/Goal: The Principal serves as the educational leader of the school.

Achieving academic excellence requires that the principal work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum knowledge and adherence, organizing and supervising extracurricular activities, personnel management and supervision, developing emergency procedures, responding to crisis situations, and facility and maintenance operations.

Term of Employment: 12 month position

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to Assistant Superintendent

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

PA Certification in Administration required.

Expertise in School Administration, Supervision/K-12 Curriculum Teaching and Learning.

Three years of administrative experience preferred.

The Principal shall demonstrate Strategic and Cultural Leadership by:

Clearly articulate the mission and vision of the school, as well as, clear expectations of students and staff.

Leading the development, implementation and evaluation of efforts related to student achievement and growth.

Utilizing a variety of data sources to make informed decisions for enhancing student achievement.

Leading the development, implementation and evaluation of a school improvement plan.

Influencing a school culture conducive to continuous improvement for students and staff.

Fostering, recognizing and supporting ethnic, cultural, gender, economic and human diversity throughout the school community.

Establishing positive relationships with teachers, staff, parents, and students with an attitude of respect, appreciation and the highest level of professionalism.

Developing and recognizing teacher/staff leaders.

The Principal shall demonstrate Systems Leadership by:

Providing for school, student, teacher/staff celebrations so high performance, customs and traditions can be honored.

Maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Collaboratively developing and implementing a school discipline plan that contains clear expectations.

Reviewing and maintaining records of student discipline and taking appropriate action when student or staff safety is at stake.

Following through consistently with reasonable judgment.

Having knowledge and understanding of education laws and regulations.

The Principal shall demonstrate Leadership for Learning by:

Consistently ensuring that the District's curricula are implemented with fidelity throughout the school.

Creating opportunities to collaboratively use data/assessments to drive instructional decisions and practices.

Consistently monitoring the effectiveness of and timely feedback to professional staff in the domains of:

Planning and preparation

Classroom environment

Instruction

Professional responsibilities

Participating in professional development activities, including inter-rater reliability, to better monitor the use of effective instructional and assessment practices.

Articulating a belief in high measureable goals for all students and staff.

Leading school efforts to set and monitor learning goals for all students and establish safety nets for struggling students.

Holding every staff member responsible and accountable for ensuring that all students achieve the rigorous outcomes established for them.

Implementing processes and schedules in a systematic manner to protect instructional and planning time from interruptions.

The Principal shall demonstrate Professional and Community Leadership by:

Creating systems and engaging parents/ guardians and all community stakeholders in a shared responsibility for student and school success reflecting the community's vision of the school.

Collaboratively working to establish a culture that encourages and welcomes families and community members and seeks ways in which to engage them in student learning.

Articulating and demonstrating a personal and professional code of ethics.

Displaying high standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality in interactions with students, staff and stakeholders.

Actively serving students to ensure that all students receive a fair opportunity to succeed.

Targeting professional development toward the improvement of learning experiences, including quality of classroom instruction and the ability of teachers to meet the needs of all students.

Planning and routinely participating in professional development focused on improving instructional programs and practices.

Essential Skills:

Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents.

Broad knowledge of curriculum and instructional methods, skills and programs.

Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of others to guide their professional growth.

Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies governing education in Pennsylvania.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to organize, plan and prioritize.

Clearances:

Must hold or obtain FBI, State Police Criminal and Child Abuse Clearances.

Special Requirements:

Physical Demands: Physical requirements are the same as those encountered in the course of a typical professional office environment.

Applicant must be available for all school and community events.
