Job Description: Interim Controller – Large Construction Company

A leading construction company in southwest Indianapolis area, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide critical financial oversight during a transitional period. This position requires a seasoned consultant with a proven track record in corporate accounting leadership, company integrations, and intercompany accounting. The Interim Controller will supervise a team of at least 10 accounting professionals and play a key role in optimizing financial processes, ensuring compliance, and driving system conversions.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Oversight:
Manage and supervise a team of 10+ accounting staff across various functions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines.
Provide leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
Act as the primary accounting leader, reporting directly to senior management and providing financial insights to drive strategic decision-making.
Corporate Accounting & Compliance:
Oversee all facets of corporate accounting, including intercompany accounting, financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and internal controls.
Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other regulatory standards.
Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
Lead efforts to implement and monitor best practices in shared services environments.
Past experience in Driving company integration initiatives, ensuring alignment of accounting systems, workflows, and policies.
Oversee ERP system upgrades, migrations, or integrations, with a strong focus on Vista Viewpoint or similar platforms (experience with Vista Viewpoint is a plus).
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve internal controls, and enhance reporting capabilities.
Manage construction accounting processes, including job cost accounting, contract revenue recognition, and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting.
Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to provide accurate cost analysis and timely financial data.
Ability to quickly assess and adapt to current accounting processes and technologies.
Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, other departments, and senior stakeholders.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on process improvement and workflow efficiency.
Hands-on, solution-oriented mindset with an ability to deliver results in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications
15+ years of corporate accounting experience, including at least 5 years managing medium to large accounting teams.
Proven experience in intercompany accounting and working in shared service environments.
Successful history of overseeing company integrations and managing ERP conversions or system integrations (Vista Viewpoint experience is a strong plus).
Knowledge of construction accounting and familiarity with WIP reporting and revenue recognition principles (preferred).
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable.
Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
