Job Summary
The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing and supporting new and existing control systems used in the company’s various coating processes. This role involves the execution of moderately complex engineering projects, providing support from initial design through to implementation, all in alignment with company policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and demonstrate initiative in applying emerging technologies to industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities
Develop electrical design and schematic drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks Electrical
Collaborate with the digitalization team to align controls infrastructure with data collection and monitoring initiatives
Interpret mechanical design drawings to determine electrical requirements
Research and evaluate supplier components for system integration
Develop and maintain electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Power up electrical systems and configure hardware to meet application specifications
Inspect work of assemblers and technicians; provide guidance during the build process
Contribute to project budget planning and timeline development
Design and implement PLC and HMI applications based on specified requirements
Define HMI/communication interfaces and network specifications according to customer needs
Troubleshoot, repair, and enhance legacy control system code
Write user manuals and technical documentation including troubleshooting guides and spare parts lists
Participate in engineering review sessions to ensure successful implementation of features
Provide controls support during equipment commissioning and startup phases
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical or related discipline)
1–3 years of engineering experience in an industrial environment
Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong knowledge of PLC and HMI programming (Allen Bradley required)
Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Visual Basic, VB.NET, or Python programming languages
Knowledge of ABB robotics systems and fundamentals
Familiarity with modern industrial networking protocols and standards
Certifications
