Job Description

SUMMARY: The Queens University of Charlotte DICE Graduate Assistant’s (GA) overall mission is to enrich the cocurricular experience of students at Queens University of Charlotte. This role establishes and maintains an active and deeply engaged presence to sustain and grow strong collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community organizations. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership and support to students participating in the DICE Peer Mentoring Program. This part-time, 20 hours a week Graduate Assistant position reports to the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement (DICE).

The successful candidate must be currently enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for DICE, the GA position begins on July 7, 2025. There is no expressed or implied commitment to a paid position upon completion of the internship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As a GA, you will learn and apply knowledge and skills in the following areas:

Programming:

Learn and assist with onboarding, training, and supervising DICE work study students.

Learn and oversee the management of the DICE Lounge.

Learn and oversee recruitment, programming, and tracking for the peer mentoring program.

Learn and assist with strategic planning and execution of campus cultural programs and events.

Learn and partner with multicultural student groups to aid with programming and to encourage cross-cultural programming.

Learn and coordinate communication and marketing of DICE events and cultural observances.

Learn and provide a DICE monthly unit report.

Other duties as assigned.

Expectations:

The GA is recognized as a University Official and represents the university and the department on and off university property

GAs are considered mandatory reporters under Title IX and the Clery Act

GAs are expected to abide by and report violations of all local, state, and federal laws and regulations

Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required

Currently enrolled in a graduate program at Queens University of Charlotte

Possess leadership skills and the ability to work in a team

Easily approachable, friendly, and able to establish rapport with students and others

Ability to use discretion and exercise good judgment

Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information

Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion

Experience that demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of first-generation college students

Remain calm, cool and collected in time of crisis

Exceptionally strong communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal, presentation)

Ability to mediate problems, situations, and enforce policies

Live-in Potential

Graduate Assistants within Student Affairs are the first considered for the four-emergency response graduate support positions that are live-in. These positions are selected separately by Residence Life. The Emergency Response Graduate Support Positions will be expected to be available during emergency situations on campus (inclement weather, etc.) and participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours emergencies. This is an additional responsibility above and beyond your graduate assistantship and thus is treated separately. On-campus housing is provided for free in return for the duties as part of this separate role. On-campus housing includes a one-bedroom furnished apartment including water, electricity, internet, and free onsite laundry. Live-in Graduate Assistants also receive an increased campus dining plan and thus receive (10 meals/week and $450 Lions dollars per year). On-campus housing is pet and partner friendly.

Renumeration

Graduate Assistants are eligible for 2 tuition-free graduate courses per academic semester, including summer if actively serving in the graduate assistant role. IMPORTANT: No tuition remission is available for Cybersecurity Management courses.

Graduate Assistants for Student Affairs are provided with a campus-dining plan during the academic year (5 meals/week) and free membership to the Levine Fitness Center.

Graduate Assistants are eligible for free on-campus parking.

Graduate Assistants enjoy flexible scheduling. Time away to be coordinated with immediate supervisor.

Graduate Assistants may be employed outside of Queens for part time work as agreed upon with their supervisor, so long as it does not interfere with the core learnings of this position.
