Contract: 6 Months

Pay Rate: $45/ HR W-2

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Power Distribution Design Technician

with 5+ years of experience in power delivery systems for utility and industrial applications. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in overhead and underground distribution design, work order processing, schematic development, and field coordination. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, BOUD, and related engineering software, and demands a collaborative mindset to interface with project managers, field personnel, and utility stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for utility projects.

Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, BOUD) and GIS platforms to create and update technical drawings, construction prints, and system models.

Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and structural pole analysis to ensure system integrity and compliance with industry standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE).

Conduct site visits and field surveys using GPS and surveying tools to gather necessary data for accurate designs.

Prepare detailed cost estimates, bill of materials, and procurement recommendations for project execution.

Collaborate with engineers, utility representatives, and contractors to align designs with operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Manage and process work requests and design tickets using Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP, conditional formatting), Access, and internal utility systems.

Provide technical redlining, quality checks, and design documentation reviews using Bluebeam and Adobe tools.

Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by developing documentation and training materials and mentoring junior team members.

Ensure proper integration of lighting, cable assemblies, control circuitry, and NLC systems where applicable.

Maintain and update project documentation in shared platforms such as OneNote and SharePoint.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).

Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical distribution design, preferably for utility or industrial power systems.

Proficient in AutoCAD, BOUD (Bentley OpenUtilities Design), GIS, Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP), and Microsoft Access.

Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, and IEEE standards.

Familiarity with CAD tools such as Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Catia, and Revit is a plus.

Experience with electrical testing tools and methodologies (oscilloscopes, multimeters, schematic troubleshooting).

Ability to interpret technical drawings, perform circuit analysis, and lead field data collection efforts.
