We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Accounting Intern with a foundational background in accounting and a strong emphasis on analytics and Excel. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in general accounting, cross-functional department support, and hands-on data analysis. You will act as a liaison between Billing, AR/AP, and the Controller, with potential involvement in reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.
General Accounting:
Assist with bank and balance sheet reconciliations
Support journal entry preparation and monthly financial reporting
Participate in budgeting processes: monthly comparatives, quarterly reviews
Crosstrain in billing, union payroll, receivables, and payables
Analytics & Reporting:
Conduct cost analyses and generate production reports
Assist other departments with statistical needs (e.g., safety, logistics)
Analyze and maintain rolling statistics by customer, cargo type, etc.
Additional Tasks:
Support project billing and potential collections/AR assistance
Aid in audit processes (insurance, workers comp, banks, annual reviews)
Contribute to ad hoc projects requiring accounting and analytical insights
Minimum Qualifications:
Heavy hands-on Excel experience: pivot tables, lookups, formulas, charts
Ability to clean and analyze raw data independently
Exposure to Oracle or other ERP systems (not just QuickBooks/Sage)
Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and internal controls
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting, or related fields (Finance, Business, Analytics, Economics, Maritime/Logistics)
Experience in budgeting and financial modeling
Experience building reports or models (not just executing pre-made ones)
Exposure to stevedoring or maritime environments a plus, but not required
Internship Details
The start date will be Monday, June 2nd, 2025
The internship will last approximately 10 weeks, ending on Friday, August 15th, 2025
This is a full-time internship (up to 30 hours a week, Mon- Friday)
The format is expected to be in-person at Port or office location
