Position Summary:
The Assistant Venue Manager at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s small venues (Liberty Magic, Harris Theater, James E. Rohr Building, and Three Stories on Liberty) assists guests and supports traffic flow and information sharing, facilitates the sale of merchandise, concessions and tickets, supports performers and technical team whenever appropriate, and helps to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for all who enter the venue. The Assistant Venue Manager is scheduled to work between four and eight hours per shift. This individual works cooperatively to ensure guest safety, comfort, and enjoyment while visiting Trust venues.
This is a part-time position working daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Assistant Venue Managers will be rotated with other part-time staff members with no annual guarantee for the number of events worked. Hours will be determined by the needs of the Trust and will coincide with events scheduled at Trust facilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in theater, theater management, production, or related field preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum 2-3 years’ experience that includes work in several of the following areas: business administration, retail management, arts administration, customer service, or production management.
Supervisory Experience: Prior experience managing a customer service team in a theater, retail, or front-of-house environment preferred.
Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required. Comfort and familiarity with theater audio/video equipment, knowledge of how to set up AV Equipment and troubleshoot A/V issues.
Intangibles: People oriented, customer-service oriented, strong problem-solver. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to share the theater experience to a wide audience.
Essential Functions:
Main job responsibilities:
Assist the Venue Manager with show and event based operational functions at Trust small venues
Help to train volunteers to ensure excellent customer service for theater patrons.
Work shows and special events and oversee front-of-house operations to provide exceptional patron experiences.
Address customer service issues during shows and events.
Complete performance report when acting in Venue Manager capacity, as needed.
Assists in conducting regular inspections of the building for maintenance and safety concerns.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned. Supervisory responsibility: This position may have limited direct supervisory responsibility; however, the Assistant Venue Manager provides indirect supervision to volunteers and concession operators.
Decision-making responsibility: The Assistant Venue Manager has significant discretion regarding theater operations during shows and events worked.
Budget responsibility: This position has no budget responsibility.
Strategic responsibility: This position does not have strategic responsibility.
Reporting requirements: This Assistant Venue Manager provides supporting information for performance reports.
Physical demands: This position involves some office work – occasional lifting up to 30 lbs. may be required. During performances and events, walking and/or standing for extended periods is necessary.
Compensation:
This is a part-time, hourly position. Compensation starts at $20/hour.
